I grew up on Transformers, when I was young I would only buy and only let my parents buy me Transformers. Even after the company stopped production I used to go to the vintage toy store in Massachusetts and buy the overstock they kept. As a result my collection is massive. Though, over the years, some Gobots would creep in. I hated when I unintentionally got them, but now I actually cut them some slack. Most Gobots sucked, but unlike Transformers, the creators of Gobots tried to add articulation to them. G1 Transformers are usually referred to as "Blockformers" by their Transformers fans, who now are much more used to the hyper-articulated figures of Beast Wars, the Unicron Saga, RiD and Animated. Gobots was the first, as far as I can tell, to try to add normal action figure articulation to their robot modes. This did take away from their transformations, and it usually made them flimsy, cheap and easily breakable. Whereas the few Transformers from G1 with decent articulation were still somewhat stable. Gobots do suck, but people should cut them some slack, especially since they were just popular enough for Transformers to buy them out.
In case your wondering, Gobots the show is now techincally an offshoot of Transformers G1 continuity. The Gobots depicted in the show Gobots were the warriors Megatron killed in the Pits when he was a Gladiator for the Quintessons/Early Autobots. They were merged as Cybertronian elders in the DW and IDW comics.
