Looking back now, the go-bots really did suck

If you grew up on them i pity you, you missed MOTU, Real Ghostbusters, The A-Team.

You poor poor man.
A-team was crap, MOTU was crap, Ghostbusters we 90s kids had reruns of it so it was all good. We rocked with Swat Kats, Beast wars, and a sad sad rip-off of TMNT called Street Sharks that rocked when we were 5 but are horrible now.

Oh and go-bots were ok, the rock lords were better. I rented the hell out of that Rock Lords movie as a kid. Who couldn't love transforming rocks.

The A-Team was awesome, still is MOTU was awesome, still is. I suppose its a age thing but the 80's had some of the best toy lines ever.

I mostly don't like your shows due to cheeze. A-team and MOTU were filled with it and annoyed me to no end. Not saying the 90s didn't have it's fair share but yeah age thing like ya said. I like my decades toy lines better. Only one thing I hate about the 90s and that was like comics at the time everything was made extream.

At the end of every episode of MOTU it'd have a moral, did you ever see the one where He-Man tells you not to let anyone touch you that does not feel right, go tell a adult.

That just makes me glad the 90s gave up on psas. Even though Power rangers had a few at the start.

80s had M.A.S.K., Transformers, Voltron, GI Joe, Centurions, Robotech, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, etc... not to mention all the Saturday Morning Cartoon lineups like Spider-man and his Amazing Friends.

I'll take all of those any day over Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Pokemon.

The Transformers cartoons sucked.

"runs away before angry fanboy mob gets him"

Yeah, the GoBots were cheap. I got a couple for Christmas once and they broke within a few months. Transformers were much higher quality toys.

The Gobots might have preceded the Transformers as a toyline, but they were still crappy.

That was a awesome show back in the day.

What pisses me off is the effeminate version of Transformers they show on cartoon network...

I feel sorry anyone who seriously watches it.

I grew up on Transformers, when I was young I would only buy and only let my parents buy me Transformers. Even after the company stopped production I used to go to the vintage toy store in Massachusetts and buy the overstock they kept. As a result my collection is massive. Though, over the years, some Gobots would creep in. I hated when I unintentionally got them, but now I actually cut them some slack. Most Gobots sucked, but unlike Transformers, the creators of Gobots tried to add articulation to them. G1 Transformers are usually referred to as "Blockformers" by their Transformers fans, who now are much more used to the hyper-articulated figures of Beast Wars, the Unicron Saga, RiD and Animated. Gobots was the first, as far as I can tell, to try to add normal action figure articulation to their robot modes. This did take away from their transformations, and it usually made them flimsy, cheap and easily breakable. Whereas the few Transformers from G1 with decent articulation were still somewhat stable. Gobots do suck, but people should cut them some slack, especially since they were just popular enough for Transformers to buy them out.

In case your wondering, Gobots the show is now techincally an offshoot of Transformers G1 continuity. The Gobots depicted in the show Gobots were the warriors Megatron killed in the Pits when he was a Gladiator for the Quintessons/Early Autobots. They were merged as Cybertronian elders in the DW and IDW comics.

Animated is actually quite good. I still place it a step behind Beast Wars, and perhaps in line with Beast Machines. People don't realize this, but G1 is dragged through the mud constantly by it's fanbase. If you go on a Transformers specific forum and start making threads about how great Transformers G1 was you'll probably be branded a troll and banned. Transformers is one of those few properties where the fans revere future incarnations far more than the original.

In terms of Transformer hierarchy I would say as far as popularity goes.

  1. Beast Wars
  2. Animated
  3. Unicron Trilogy
  4. Bayformers
  5. Transformers G1

I don't know... Maybe i'm stuck in my ways but TG1 is my definite version. The one they show now looks too girly, the animation looks like it belongs along side Hannah Montana. :(

Maybe I should watch an episode but I don't think I can tolerate it. Meh.

By the way it took me 8 years to reach 22,000 posts. Had I not been on hiatus I'd probably have 50,000. The way I was posting before I left, I was posting like a muther****er with no life.

yay me.

Michael Bay is a ****ing clown shoe. I hate him and Bruckheimer. They're so focused on making themselves hard, that they make everything explode without reason. Like when someone on the simpsons throws a soda can and it blows up.

There's no two people in movies I'd have no greated pleasure than running over with a steamroller.

Doggie would cry if he heard you say that. He really would. And then he might even infract you...

actually no, he wouldn't...

he'd get someone to do it for him.[/lazyass]

Come out of the closet with your Bay love. You're breaking his heart. He designs them for YOU! :cmad:

As a fellow child of the 90s, I can honestly say that the shows you listed sucked, besides Beast Wars. You want good 90s cartoons, look no further than anything that was on Nickelodeon, X-Men, or Batman: The Animated Series.

I was just checking this out on youtube and growing up the gobots were the poor kids transformers, the whitetrash version, the bastard step son that should have been aborted at birth. But watching this now... listening to that god awful song... noticing how tacky the animation and vehicles are.. I remember the toys being flimsy at best.

What the ****. :cmad:

I wish I had known you back then. remember the commercial for the Courageous combiner toy? Tonka really screwed up with that one, I always had a feeling there was an anime version of go-bots out there somewhere. I was really pissed lately to have discovered machine robo. Boy blame Tonka for the deal with Hanna Barbaric, and to make matters worse they even sued the makers of The Mighty Orbots (that resulted them being cancelled) because of likenessess to the Krepla-Bots. Lastly, back in 1986 I was at a K-mart with parents, I saw a model kit for Psy-kill however it wasnt any Psy-kill I knew of, it was a Robotech Mospeadya motorcycle/battlesuit. Anybody know anything about that?
