Something that occurred to me while trying to fall asleep. Just in case Lucasfilm thinks this is a good idea for Luke's fate:

This is not good. Bad bad bad. Very bad. Do not do it. The last thing I want to see is this:

:nuhu:

**** no! There is no "greater good" in that outcome. He must live to organize, train, and lead the new Jedi order, like Yoda did before him.

"That is the way of things."

I hope he doesn't die at all. I would like to see him make it to the end and honestly remain one of the big damn heroes.

One of the criticisms of the movie is that it seems to be following the basic structure of the OT; i.e. Luke trains Rey then is killed so he could become a ghost and then Rey is left on her own and she eventually turns Ren back to the good side and they kill Snoke and bring balance to the Force. I see a surprising number of people endorsing exactly that. The critics won't be so kind next time if such a lack of originality persists.

I hope he dies in a very unique way, and I hope Ren is NOT turned back to the light. Mother ****er killed a legend. :(

Rey's the hero of this trilogy and I'm not sure if Luke can function as a character primarily in the background

I think he's clearly being set up to die in the next film.

Screenwriters are a heck of a lot smarter then me though so maybe they can make Luke believable as a secondary character.

Obi-wan wasn't even originally supposed to die in Star Wars. He was supposed to go with them to Yavin. But they kind of wrote themselves into a corner. They had to find away to get him out of his duel with Vader, get him back to the ship, give Luke a push, and not have Obi-Wan standing around on Yavin doing nothing during the climax etc. The solution they realised was to kill him and bring him back as a ghost so that he could participate in the finale without standing around, and his death told Luke and the audience that the Force and the Star Wars universe was much deeper and more mysterious than we could have imagined. It was an ingenious simple solution.

Anyways, back to Luke, I don't really want him to die in 8. I'd rather he die in 9 if he must die. Cause if he does die in VIII after [BLACKOUT]Han[/BLACKOUT] died in TFA it's going to sorta feel like the writers are just checking boxes. Especially if Leia then dies in IX.

My preference would be that Luke survive the trilogy and him finally be able to settle down somewhere or be able to set up an Academy after IX. Since Disney intends to continue onward after IX I don't see any reason Luke needs to die in his trilogy. Hamil has years left in him and he likes the character and worked hard to get in shape. At least give him more than a single film. Besides it's not like a Master needs to die for a padawan to grow. Masters and Padawans used to be together for years. Obi-WN and Anakin were together for over a decade and went on many adventures. Why shouldn't Luke and Rey fight together and train together for many years?

Luke and Rey need to make up for lost time. They both need to make it through, man

Having Luke (or even Leia) die in the next two episodes would feel a bit redundant, seeing how Han bit the dust in TFA. Not all of the old characters have to die just to give the new characters their rightful spotlight, or progression in the story. You never know, the Knights of Ren may be too much for Luke or Rey to take on alone.

He deserves a good death. [BLACKOUT]He murdered his father. There should be no redemption from that.[/BLACKOUT]

She's already too strong of a character for that to happen and she's hardly even been established. She clearly has legs. If anything, interacting with Luke will only make her more credible. Besides, she'd be the one going on missions, at least after the Council is set up. Luke's job is mostly pretty boring. He'd spend most of his time at the temple running things, like Yoda did. Until then, her and Luke and possibly Finn will be teamed up, I suppose.

And if she does end up being overshadowed by Luke then she probably doesn't deserve to exist to begin with.

That's an interesting bit of information.

Co-signed.

I hope he dies at the end of IX, if then.

And if Kylo is to be redeemed, then Rey could die achieving it.

The hope is that Luke Skywalker will revive the Jedi order.

Well...if he dies, Rey is pretty OP, so she can do it herself :D

I just hope that, should the franchise continue past Ep9, they don't go on with the "no Jedi left in the galaxy" thing. Let that damn Academy stand for once. They don't have to do 10.000 Jedi like in the PT, just have an establishment.

I can understand if they decide to kill Luke, and have him return as a force ghost, but for the love of everything that is Star Wars, do not chop off Rey's hand in the next one. Talk about cliché!

Luke shouldn't die and i don't think he will especially after
losing Han

i think Luke will play a pivotal supporting role alongside Rey in reviving the Jedi Order and taking down the Sith/Knights of Ren

Well, both Obi Wan and Yoda died. Han biting it doesn't mean much.

I am guessing Luke is gonna be the Yoda of the second movie. [blackout]Han[/blackout] was the Obi-Wan of the first one [blackout]and died pretty much the same way[/blackout]

I'd much rather prefer that Luke be the 1st Jedi master to survive past the end of the trilogy. We've already watched Han being killed off in TFA and we've lost Carrie Fisher in real life so killing off Luke would be a major overkill (no pun intended.)
