Lunar Eclipse Falls on Winter Solstice for First Time in Centuries

I have no choice but to blame the ferrets. Clearly, they're the reason it was cloudy tonight

Dude what an eclipse! It's these kinds of moments I really feel lucky. Only the second time this has happened since 1 A.D.?? I have a good feeling about this next year

So I couldn't get up for this (and I'm kicking myself for it) but for those of you who did see it... was there a red tint to everything outside? I'm only asking because I vaguely remember waking up and peering out the window and thinking it looked red outside.

Yeah everything was tinted red at my place. I didn't get to see the full eclipse as I had to get up early this morning and needed the sleep, but I saw the beginning and everything was tinted red.

I didn't feel like waking up at 2 am and I don't care.

Lets see...be super tired at work the next day or see something that occurs every year but just happened to occur on a different date. Hmmmmmmm.

I really don't understand, didn't this already happen in 2007?? Just go on youtube and you'll see the same lunar eclipse from that year that alot of ppl saw this morning. Anyway, I can't tell you what a huge disappointment it was. All I saw was the morning being blotted out with a light orangey glow, which quite frankly was much more impressive on youtube for chrissakes. Maybe I needed a telescope to get a better effect, but the color shift was not particularly impressive using my eyes. I was actually more impressived with the fact that I could just almost see the stars which is pretty much impossible considering the city I live in. Anyone else see bright dots of light in the sky as well? Were those satellites or something?

Personally I'd rather see a lunar eclipse than be super tired at work...but thats just me.

Nah I've seen them before when I was a spry young lad in school and we got extra credit for taking pictures.

Now if it's something that you can see or experience that literally is a once in a lifetime event, like what will happen in 2012, then I will stay up for it. If it's something that happens every year but just on a different date then no. If it gave me superpowers or allowed me to become a werewolf or something then yes.

It was the first total lunar eclipse in the Winter Solstice in like 372 years I think..not to mention a full moon. Thats pretty rare in my opinion. I was glad to be up to see it.

Werewolf. Ha.

Too much cloud coverage in Atlanta, but Susan did get several kick-ass pictures. Hopefully, she won't drag her feet and I can post them soon.

I woke up around 1:45 AM, was getting ready for a battleground in WOW and remembered the eclipse. Stepped outside to just see it emerging out the other side. Very cool. Hopefully it won't take another 300 years to happen on the solstice with a full moon, again.

Oh I see. Well I guess what season it happens in matters. Still watching the eclipse with my naked eyes was not particularly impressive, especially when freezing in 30 degree weather.

Seeing the eclipse this morning reinvigorated my love for the stars. I used to be really into astronomy, and had a telescope a long while back. I used to look at all the constellations and planets. I missed those days. The sky is so beautiful at night sometimes.

I caught a glimpse of it at about 2:30 am central time. It was pretty cool.

The cloud cover in my city prevented me from seeing it.

I endorse this post.
