Mad Max 4, Fury Road seems to be up and running as convoys of strange-looking monster cars and trucks started leaving Walvis Bay en route to an undisclosed film set in the Namib Desert.

Contrary to rumours that the filming of the 4th Mad Max movie has been delayed, co-star Charlize Theron apparently revealed recently in a television interview that filming will start on 2 June. The frantic activity currently taking place on the coastal roads is a clear indication that something is happening as Mad Max films revolves around cars, trucks and even stranger motorcycles. These pictures were taken on Tuesday, a mere 4 days before the date mentioned by Theron.

cant wait. i want some set photos of everyone next to their respective cars.

I cant wait for spypics of Hardy in the iconic leathergarb :D

So filming starts today?

Not yet. Up to now it's been set building, stunt training and the like. It seems June 2 is the start of rehearsals. This will run about 6 weeks and filming will commence around mid July and last through the end of the year.

Damn. Despite it being so close it feels so far away. it doesn't help this movie was delayed.

Never seen any of the films, but I just watched the trailers for all three. Would I be incorrect in getting a "Star Wars in Post-Apocalyptic Australia" vibe from this series? Obviously with no robots or alien species, but still....

yeah. has no old mentor or coming of age story....its just a dude who lost everything including parts of his humanity who really doesnt care if he lives or dies.

Well, I don't mean in terms of the narrative. I just mean the general feel of the world this takes place in. The characters seemed to me like the kind of scum that would fit right in at the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Not really because Star Wars feels like a sweeping epic with world building with a huge cast of characters (some with different motives) that makes you feel like things are always going on. Star Wars is more akin to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Mad Max is more like Yojimbo or Leone's Man with No Name where the lead character is the only thing that connects each movie besides the setting. Who starts out self serving but ends up doing the right thing. A silent drifter like Ryan Goslings' Driver.

Why don't you just watch them?

These films aren't anything special by any means, though Road Warrior is the most impressive one and about the only one that I like, but they're worth a look for Gibson's character.

A cameo from Mel would be nice. Even if he did lose his mind.

It's lucky that Mad Max came out in the 80's because looking at now, it was a very uneven series. If the trilogy came out now (with the same direction and script) I think it was be hailed as a missed opportunity. I can even see a huge fanboy backlash if Thunderdome came out now, and dismiss the entire franchise. Look at Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy as an example.

But Mad Max's three films got off lucky!

Though I didn't mind Thunderdome. I think time can heal old wounds, and the movie was a good addition to the franchise. I think its was tonally uneven, it lacked car chases, and it didn't know what the movie was aiming for: The mainstream? The fans? It's a confusing but entertaining movie.

I only like MM2. Hopefully this one will make better use of a fantastic concept.

Not sure how this is going to go over with you guys.

Charlize Theron Shaves Head
June 08, 2012

Charlize Theron has had a publicity-packed last few months after adopting a baby boy and appearing in two Hollywood blockbusters: Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus! But the blonde bombshell is sure to grab headlines again after getting her head shaved!

Charlize was spotted Thursday dining in West Hollywood with a full buzz cut and ETOnline can confirm the loss of locks is for her new role in Mad Max: Fury Road. The film reboot of the 1979 classic also stars Tom Hardy, who reprises Mel Gibson's original role of Mad Max Rockatansky.

No pics yet, but I'm sure it won't take long.

I also read a tweet from a stuntwoman on the movie who said she also shaved her head today.

Also, another picture of the tanker. Check out the surfboard vehicle in the foreground.

Domestically, Mad Max was not a very successful series. In fact, the first Mad Max barely got American distribution and "Road Warrior" was never advertised as a sequel. People complain about "Thunderdome" but its what the studio felt the series needed so it could connect with audiences.

The series didn't go mainstream till Mel Gibson became a star with the Lethal Weapon franchise.

Internationally, it's a different story. Mad Max jump started the Australian film business and was a major success around the globe. For the tastes of foreign audiences, Mad Max hit the spot. As for whether it would be a hit or not today, it's impossible to know because Mad Max is very much a product of its time. If George Miller were a young filmmaker today, trying to make the first Mad Max movie, it would be a totally different film.
