I believe it's the "moonscape" area of the Namib desert. These photos were taken of some filming locations. Note the gear set up for some of the stunts.

Namibia is what caused the movie to get shut down like 10 years ago too.

That's why. They're not too fussy about the media, but film makers go where it's cheap. Places like Nambia will bend over backwards to accommodate those American dollars, shut down streets, give them low or in some cases no taxes, etc. Everyone wins.

Miller was going to do this film with Mel Gibson reprising and Downey, Jr. as the nemesis. He's updating his original script for this piece.

I still would have loved to see Gibson do it one more time.

Although this reeks of Hollywood gossip , just for the sake of it let's go wih the story.
You'd think that Charlize of all people would know just how method actors work. Not everyone id capable of switching their on-screen persona on and off and if someone immerses him/herself into a role using method acting , it's best not to disturb someone.
Charlize is some newbie actress either. She's been working in Hollywood for some time now so she of all persons should know how method actors work.

Tom is a former drug addict, so it's not uncommon for him to experience mood swings and paranoia. He's shown that on several occasions in interviews. He'll go from being goofy to intense in mere seconds.

His dedication to method acting doesn't help either. Hardy has mentioned that, at times, he takes his characters home with him.
