Madea Goes to Jail

Well, wasn't Kathy Bates in one of his movies?

Well, she was. Only she played a wealthy, white businesswoman opposite Alfre Woodard's hard-working African-American employee. They did have great chemistry in The Family That Preys, the only good thing about that movie.

A lot of Perry's movies embrace the stereotypes that white people see black people as -- sassy gun-toting grandmas, single mothers with abusive boyfriends, the list goes on and on. Perry's just not moving forward with portraying diversity and racial harmony in his films very well.

It gets me riled when Perry is a successful producer with mediocre talent while talented black people like Wanda Sykes and Gina Price-Bythewood get the shaft and don't get the recognition that they deserve.

Plus there are droves of women who loved Diary Of A Mad Black women loyalists like my sisters that keeps Tyler Perry in buiness and fans of the tv series House OF Payne.

41 millions opening weekend!

bloody hell!

Tyler perry is raking it in, he is a box office king certified without doubt now.

How many number 1 box office hits is that now?
Must be about 5 or more now!

Seriously, everything Tyler Perry does seems to be box office gold at the moment.

Very consistent.

also, for only a 2000 theater count, $41 million is truly outstanding!

Drgonball only wishes for such numbers when it comes out. This week 41 for this last week it was 45 for Friday THe 13th whats going on this year at the BO.

because the whole black community raves around this film.

Let me tell you why this film had a successful opening. First off, all black cast. Look at all the other movies out in theaters...white white white white movies. Not because Hollywood is racist, but because black actors who are serious are hard to come by.

*laughs* Most black people have had trouble with the law, have been to jail themselves

:whatever::whatever::whatever::whatever::whatever:

Hopefully you don't really believe that. You are idiots if you do.

I have no interest in Tyler Perry or his cross dressing.

*laughs* Most black people have had trouble with the law, have been to jail themselves and see a film advertised taht is a black film about an old fashioned black woman going to jail and think 'Man...I can dig that'. Just like the nerdy white guy see's a film like 'Fanboys' and they feel they have something to relate to and can imagin themselves wanting to be in that film.
That a harsh stereotype, don't you think?

Anyways, I am really shocked that this made 41 million dollars at the box office...WTF!
First it was Paul Blart:Mall Cop, then Friday the 13th, and now this....people really love bad movies this time of year.

I don't like anything from TP except for Madea. I want to see it, but I'll wait for the DVD.

I really am amazed at how all these movies are making so much money. Are people really that bored to waste money on such crappy movies? I think the last movie I saw in theaters was Tropic Thunder. If I'm spending $10 or 12 on a movie it's gonna be something I'm really interested in. Otherwise I'll just wait a couple months for the DVD to come out and get it on Netflix.

Obviously they don't think they are crappy. Just like you liked Tropic Thunder but there are people who think that movie is crappy.

No. I don't believe it's harsh at all. In fact, it's not even a stereotype. It's the harsh truth of the matter. I'm not saying every black person has been to jail or had problems...but look at the facts here...the majority of them have. Madea is a stereotype herself as a character, and Tylar Perry has embraced it because even he himself knows it's no-longer a stereotype. These are characters based on reality, truth, from his life, who he knows, and has writen them down and made a profit off of it.

I'm not an idiot, I'm a realist. I'm not going to sugar coat anything to sound 'PC' for anyone. I believe it, because I've seen it, lived it, know it, and can't ignore it. Maybe you've never been in the 'real' world, but for all those people who are saying 'stereotypes' are harsh, unfair and untrue..you need to take a long walk down a long road and have some long talks with a lot of people in your life before you realize the world is not a pretty, Policially correct, friendly, everyone is equal world.

No, you are not a realist if you think the majority of black people have been to prison.

I don't believe my claim's as incorrect as Mr. ABC's.

Yup, you are just as incorrect. So the whole black community loves Tyler Perry?:whatever:

I guess the whole white community loves Will Ferrell.

Well when black people rush out to the theaters to see Milk and Doubt...come back and talk to us.

I'm sure there are black people who went to see those movies. Just as there are whites who go to Tyler Perry movies.

Oh, I'm sure there are, but we're not talking about the 'small' minority here. We're talking about majority, which rules all, and makes the so called 'stereotype' a fact. I have no doubt that there are people who break their 'forms'. Nobody care's about the minority when it comes to this type of stuff, because the minority doesn't speak for the majority.

I'm so sorry, Mr. Hero. I guess I was just using a figure of speech, it happens when online, and sometimes you just write the things that you didn't really mean to imply. I apoligize.

I just don't get, its actually really really sad!
I had hope because the general audience loved The dark knight but then these three movies make huge money....and Friday the 13th and Madea having HUGE fanbases...whats going on!?
Even if a movie ticket was 3 dollars, why go through that torture? I try not to watch a bad movie, sometimes I'll fall onto one on accident and sometimes Ill watch when for fun just to laugh at it (but I would NEVER pay money for one)

btw, I want netflix so bad.

Okay whatever. If you think that most (over 50%) black people all around the world have been to jail or broken a bunch of laws then I won't argue with you.

Now you're just pushing it to the extremes. This was about American theater audiences and not the WORLD. We have yet to see what the international take on Madea is yet...but I'm going out on a limb here and say it won't be anywhere near 41 million.
