The first Mafia had a "free roam" mode where you could do side missions to earn money: killing gangsters, playing "taxi", etc. If I remember correctly the map was smaller compared to the main game's.But the only thing is the original Mafia and Mafia 2 didn’t have side quests if I remember but I do think Mafia 3 does have a few.
Mafia II had all that integrated in the main campaign. I suppose they're not really side missions/quests similarly found in RPGs.
Mafia: DE uses the same engine as Mafia 3 (the remake is being made by the same developer that did the third game), although it's an updated version. That's also why there seems to be more cover-shooter gameplay in the DE and that alarms me a bit.One nitpick that does bug me a bit though is that Tommy's animations are straight up ripped from Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3. I get that it's probably easier to do this way but something feels off about it. I feel like Tommy and Lincoln are such different characters that should be reflected in the way they move/shoot, etc.
