MAG: Massive Action Game

The game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.
Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play, with at least three factions being considered for inclusion; including American, European and Middle Eastern factions.
The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes. The game will boast numerous classes for players to specialize in; including medics, commandos and field demolition specialists. The game will be a first-person shooter.

I've been a lot more interested in this game after learning about how they're handling leadership positions and the factional stuff. Kind of reminds me of an infantry focused Chromehounds.

They need a new name, though. It doesn't get more generic than "Massive Action Game."

Agreed. When the game was first introduced, I thought MAG was just a place holder until they could come up with a name. I guess not. The trailer really got me hyped for it more than I already was. It looks to be a very fun game.

Is this a FPS or third person shooter?

EDIT: Never mind i didn't read the first post. Game looks good

Off topic, but I've never really cared much for the design of the Playstation controller, and it's never been a problem with most games, but I absolutely can't stand it for shooters! So does anyone know of any good Playstation controllers that are maybe shaped a little different or have thumbstick placement more like the 360's? This is going to be integral to my enjoyment of this game.

Yeah they sell them at Gamestop but they really are not worth $30 they break really easily. But i have never had a problem with the controller i mean yeah the 360 controller fits perfectly into your hands but i think the PS controller is quite comfortable as well.

Back on topic when will this game release? And is it me or does anyone else think that these graphics suck?

Theres actually a converter which can be used to use the 360 controller on the PS3

Really? Wow that's cool.

Anyways, this game is... promising perhaps. Depends, its one of those games that isn't going to be a 6-8, its either going to be a 9/10 or a 1-5...

If that makes any sense.

anyone else think that this game looked really complicated at E3?

This game didnt really impress me. I dont know what it is. Im not too excited about it. Will anyone really play this game while Modern Warfare is out? I dont think its smart for sony to invest in another 1st person shooter this fall.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with Modern Warfare 2. The demo looked way too complicated to be enjoyable. For me anyway.

It's only complicated if you are a squad leader. And you have to log quite a bit of time in the game to earn that rank. Everyone else receives orders from him and you follow it.

I dont think a game like this can work. The people you meet through Live and the PSN are too stupid to follow orders and work as a team. I mean the only time i am ever able to get teamwork when playing online is if im playing with friends. This game sounds so damn cool tho. I mean having these massive battles going on is just awesome. I just dont think ppl will be able to work together long enough to make this game work.

Exactly. I mean it's hard enough to get a handful of people to cooperate in Call of Duty, I can't even imagine trying to coordinate 100+ players.

The game might be good. I just dont feel it' ll compete with Modern Warfare 2. CoDs fanbase is way too strong right now.

Maybe they will have smaller online battles, too. Like instead of just 256 people battles, maybe you can choose between 256, 128, and 64 or something. I'm not all too sure if that's been addressed or not. I can definitely agree that 256 people battles could get sticky.

Though, I must say, them doing that supposed 256 live on stage and pretty much lag/slowdown free was pretty cool

Remember, there wren't thousands of players logged in at the same time. Zipper doesn't have the best online track record. The socom games are infamously laggy. I really hope they can handle the servers.

Does that really matter? They still had a full 256 people logged into the same game with no lag that I could see, one again, pretty cool

You couldn't possibly expect a game of this size to have good graphics. With 256 players all running around with explosions everywhere and whatnot, something somewhere has to give.

Pandamar, do you work for Gamer Limit? :p

I've gotta say on one hand, we're getting to the point now (where I knew we would get) that Exp. points popping up in the middle of the screen is spawning "here we go again" thinking.

On the other, the whole idea of MAG is to deliver large scale warfare.

IMO it'll be like a big version of SOCOM a game that I love. It'll be a buy for me
