man arrested for photographing santa and child

The guy did not handle the situation well once he was confronted by the police, but it's the fact that the police were even involved that I find troubling. He was just there taking some photographs to send home to his girlfriend. He wasn't just taking pictures of little girls sitting on Santa's Lap, he was taking pictures of everything and a few kids happened to slip in (go figure- kids at a mall!) The parents of one of the kids asked him to delete the pictures of their kids and he did, it should have ended there. Instead they had to go one step further and judge this guy based on whatever stereotypes of pedophiles the media has fed them and decide to get the police involved. These are probably the kind of people who call 911 whenever they see a Muslim wearing a backpack too.

I've been doing photography for a couple of years now. Anytime I have any kind of camera with me, people tend to get very edgy for some reason. Like I'm going to return home to my dark basement, hang photos of them and **** off.

I've never had a problem with people but my friend was filming a scene with his friends and some kid walked in front of the shot. The Dad freaked out calling them pedos...They captured the fathers freak out on cam incase he went to the police.

That sort of pisses me off in most cases.

If someone gets pissed off that you are taking pictures or filming and they ask you to stop. Just stop. Why not?

I hate it when people are obviously pissing someone off who is getting madder and madder at whatever they're doing but they refuse to stop and then get pissed off when they get smacked in the face.

Agreed this should have ended between the photographer and the person whose kid he took a pic of

He wasnt filming the kid the kid walked into the shoot. Should a dad be a llowed to get angry at someone else cause their kid wandered aimlessly into someones shot accidentally?

He didn't know the camera was rolling. They we filming a scene by a lake a the kid walked in front and because the kid walked in front, the Dad accused these college students of being pedos. He didn't ask to them erase the footage, he just flipped out on them calling them pedos. If this man did continue to freak out and attempted to hit of them, then they have evidence.

The man should of apologized for his kid getting in the way of the shot.

Allowed? People can get angry at anything they want. How they handle it is the question, but the key is that if you don't like it when someone gets angry you should stop doing whatever makes them angry if this is at all possible.

Stop making them angry and maybe they won't freak out and punch you for instance.

That's the ticket.

If someone came up to me and started freaking out over something like their kid wondering in shot, that would get me angry. The man himself is lucky he didn't get a punch in the face.

And it's none of his business if the camera was still rolling. It's a public place.

Allowed may have been the wrong word. However it seems that this guy didn't even bother to ask or find out what was going on. He just saw a camera and started yelling and hollering. I see camreas all the time. I don't just assume they are taking pics or filming nor do I assume that they are filming me because the camera looks like it's facing my direction. People are to quick to overract about stuff.

Totally true. But none of that matters.

If what you're doing is making someone else angry enough to get violent. Stop it. It doesn't matter who's "right" or "wrong".

That's all nonsense.

Just because the aggressor was in the wrong does not mean that you shouldn't apologize and placate them anyway.

If you read the second article though, it says the guy wasn't confronted by the police until he went back to the area where kids were visiting Santa. Parents could have easily been talking to mall security around there, asking them to be a little more vigilant. Then the guy that put them on guard in the first place, happens to walk by again, what are you gonna do, I'd point him out and say look that's the guy who was talking pictures of our kids eariler.

Agreed but people need to learn how to control themselves. Im sure the problem could have been resolved if he politley asked him to stop filming or ask he if he was indeed filming. As far as I am concerned you loosw quite a bit of credibility and and level of respect returned if you just start yelling at a person you have a problem with before you even know what is going on. That level of immaturity is reserved for the younglings. If the person gets loud and violent before even finding out what is going on the can't expect a solution. It would have been a complete different scenario if the guy said., "Excuse me can you please not film my son" and the guy did it anyway than sure he has every right to be angry. But I can't stop doing what is making you angry if you can't even form a proper sentence to tell me what it is that I am doing that is making you angry. That is the problem with most people...they make grand assumptions and assumptions are just the backbone of foolishness.

Do you also lay down in the mud and let people walk over you to stop getting dirty?

:whatever:

No. All I am saying is that fighting over something stupid doesn't get anyone anywhere. Why spend time fighting with someone who is obviously wrong when you can just apologize and get them out of your way?

Oh I know the answer. People who fight for insignificant reasons even though they could just "man up" and walk away. Those guys are *******s.

How do you defend the photographer? He's the one who did almost everything wrong in the case.

All he did wrong was take the picture of the cops which pissed them off. And they clearly didn't handle the situation well either if they threw his camera to the ground. This wouldn't even be a problem if parents weren't paranoid that everyone is trying to kidnap and rape their children thanks to shows like To Catch A Predator.

Please point out to me where it says they threw his camera to the ground and broke it?

When did the cop "throw his camera to the ground"?

And maybe this wouldn't be a problem if the parents weren't paranoid, but there's nothing wrong with reporting an incident if you're afraid. Certainly you don't place more fault on this man's situation to the parents than himself?

Simply put the situation could have best been resolved if he just explained himself. Apologized. Deleted the pictures and then moved on.

The cops are pricks for doing this:

"Why are you taking pictures of kids?"

Way to try and defuse the situation. Immediately accuse him of something that will cause a scene. Think maybe they could have just stopped at pictures?

Original post:

"I snapped off a picture (of the officers questioning him) and at the same time he grabbed my camera, and I reached up with my left hand to catch the camera from hitting the floor and he said don't you touch me," he continued."

Defuse what situation? There wasn't one. He just asked a question. You have no idea in what manner the question was asked, there's no reason to make assumptions.

No where does it say that the officer threw the camera or that it even ever actually hit the floor.

Then why are they already asking him about taking pictures of kids like he was doing it on purpose? You can't say 'no assumptions' to protect an assumption.

That something always bothers me, I would never take a child to a r rated movie I know that has extreme violence and nudity and probably a sex scene too. I'm not a prude but I think a parent is a idiot thinking that's a good way to spend time with your kid
And cursing.... the same lanaguge she didn't want around her kid.

As for the main what did the parents expect the police to do?
It wasn't like the pic was porn. Yes, he may have wanted to wank over her. But, no matter how sick it may be, It's not Illegal. he deleted the pic, too.

Did you know 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary?

Did you know that jackass is?

Then why are they already asking him about taking pictures of kids like he was doing it on purpose? You can't say 'no assumptions' to protect an assumption.

He was taking pictures of the kids. The call was about the pictures being taken of the kids. It was obvious that he was in fact doing that.

Did you know that jackass is?

Lousy comeback

They could have seen what his pictures were before instead of accusing him of being a perv and throwing his camera to the ground. Oh wait, you don't believe that. You think they took it and it somehow slipped from their hands :whatever:

He was taking pictures of the kids.
Because it's not like he was taking pictures of the scene and accidentally got a kid in it.

The call was about the pictures being taken of the kids. It was obvious that he was in fact doing that.
And why can't they just ask, "why are you taking pictures?" Adding the "of kids" immediately accuses him of something that is going to make him not respond well, especially as it is a cop asking.

Lousy comeback

Lousy insult. :oldrazz:

They never accused him of being a perv! They asked why he was taking pictures. To which he DID NOT ANSWER.

I don't think that the camera ever hit the ground. The photographer said that he raised his hand to prevent it from falling. He never said if it was successful or not.
