In the Stand-Up Comics bizness...stealing jokes is the biggest sin. Dane Cook is so popular now...it just won't even matter. There are going to be upcoming or deserving comics that want to tour with him, or be in his next movie because he's so insanely popular. I saw Dane Cook on a Comedy Central bit years ago...it must of been around 98 or so. I always thought he was like a frat boy's comic. But when his cd's got released and his stand up was shown a lot...I could see that he really is speaking to a certain generation, my generation. So...its love it or hate it. I think he's got good delivery...does the physical stuff really well, and his energy is real. It'd be easy to say that the Comedian community that doesn't like him is jealous...or he really does steal that much material. If he was really hated...then why was he invited to the Dennis Leary Roast? A known joke thief ripping a stand up legend?

I think the Dane hate has become a fad. Everybody dislikes certain comedians but enough people got together and deemed it "cool" to hate Dane, and now you have this following.

In a few years when Dane's starpower has gone back to normal, all of his "old" fans can enjoy his comedy in peace and the haters can find a new target

Aside from Cook and Mencia, among the comic community even people like Denis Leary and Robin Williams are considered "joke" stealers.

And obviously Leary and Williams are doing alright. I guess it just begs the question, is success worth sullying your name over.

Leary has been considered one since No Cure for Cancer.

That basically ended the friendship between him and Bill Hicks

The comics who get their jokes stolen, from what I've seen, have either really dry or unfunny delivery of their jokes. Some comics should just be writers for other comics...they'd probably make a lot more money. The comic who DC is accused of stealing from sounds really boring (from the snippets I've heard of him).

Just because you can write songs don't mean you can sing.

I think Dane Cook's pretty funny, thought he was funny way back when I saw his first Comedy Central Presents, but now that he's so popular people are starting to pile on the hate. It really does just feel like jealousy. Is he a joke stealer? I don't know, maybe, or maybe he tells similar jokes much better than another comedian and gets bigger laughs and makes more money so the other comedian crys to everyone he listens to that Dane stole his joke. Besides every comic steals stuff from other comics, every black comic doing a white voice should be called on it besides they are just stealing from Richard Pryor. Dave Chappelle owes a lot to Eddie Murphy, who owes a lot of Richard Pryor, but you don't hear about them stealing jokes.
