Director Martin Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio appear to have a potential new project developing with Killers of the Flower Moon. According to Deadline, the pair are “seriously considering” a big-screen adaptation of New Yorker staff writer David Grann‘s just-released nonfiction book. Fully titled Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, the book is officially described by publisher Penguin Random House as follows:

In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, they rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe.

Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a prime target. Her relatives were shot and poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more and more members of the tribe began to die under mysterious circumstances.

In this last remnant of the Wild West—where oilmen like J. P. Getty made their fortunes and where desperadoes like Al Spencer, the “Phantom Terror,” roamed—many of those who dared to investigate the killings were themselves murdered. As the death toll climbed to more than twenty-four, the FBI took up the case. It was one of the organization’s first major homicide investigations and the bureau badly bungled the case. In desperation, the young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White to unravel the mystery. White put together an undercover team, including one of the only American Indian agents in the bureau. The agents infiltrated the region, struggling to adopt the latest techniques of detection. Together with the Osage they began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.

Grann is also the author of The Lost City of Z. A feature film adaptation of that book enters a wide release today.

Add this to the never ending pile of films Scorsese and DiCaprio attach themselves to.

oh and DeNiro is attached to this too.

I'd watch it (obviously). Would Leo reprise J. Edgar? Too old now?

I'm still hoping Marty drops out of directing The Devil in the White City and Leo calls in Nolan to do it (Marty produces).

Please?

Here's a Collider Movie Talk clip on this from yesterday,

Martin Scorsese May Be Filming KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON Next Year
Yes, DiCaprio's probably gonna be in it.
SCOTT WAMPLER said:
The current plan calls for Killers Of The Flower Moon to star Leonardo DiCaprio (obvs) and Robert De Niro (also obvs). Based on a novel of the same name by David Grann, Killers Of The Flower Moon tells the story of the FBI's first major case: a series of racially-charged murders tied to the discovery of oil on land owned by the Osage Indian nation. DiCaprio and De Niro are not yet confirmed for the roles, but come on: you know they're gonna be in it.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese to Reteam on ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are officially reteaming. Imperative Entertainment has attached Scorsese to direct and DiCaprio to star in the feature adaptation of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the New York Times best-selling book by David Grann. Scorsese will produce alongside Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Sikelia Productions’ Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Appian Way Productions. Eric Roth is penning the script. The pic is expected to be both Scorsese and DiCaprio’s next project.

He has been working on Scorsese’s film for “probably five years,” however.

“Martin is the most inventive man I’ve ever worked with — certainly, he encourages you to be the most imaginative and I have a good imagination… It’s set between 1920 and 1925, and I think it can be one of the last great Westerns. He wants to make one big Western — this will be the last of its kind, I promise you.”

'Killers of the Flower Moon' will be filmed in Osage County, will feature Robert DeNiro, Osage Nation principal chief says

After months of discussions with the Osage Nation about making “Killers of the Flower Moon” into a movie, the tribe’s chief said Friday that director Martin Scorsese finally confirmed that his team will film the adaptation in Osage County.

“Two weeks ago some of the other production people could not tell us for sure that they would (film in Oklahoma,)” Standing Bear said Friday evening, adding that “today they said yes.” He relayed that “it was a very recent decision.”. He said the production team said it wants to work closely with the Osage Nation so the tribe’s 1920s culture, history and language would be correct in the film.

The bulk of preproduction for “Killers of the Flower Moon” is expected to occur in November, with filming projected for the spring and summer of 2020.

Whatever the hell “acting like a bald child” means.

From Amy Pascal's email:

I'm trying to get Fincher on JOBS, but Eric and Angie act like children around Fincher. They play these games around him. Eric gets emotionally sick whenever Fincher tells him the script needs trimming.

I cannot wait for this.

I absolutely respect Martin Scorsese but it’s not reasonable to expect a major studio to spend that much on a movie on a western considering the box office history of westerns recently.
