Scorsese and DiCaprio Reteam on Wall Street

DiCaprio indeed does tend to play in 40's/50's-based fedora-wearing-period pieces and usually he is under intense pressure and stress. It's true, he does tend to play specific parts but calling them ''all the same'' is really very condescending and so it the eternal speculation that he is fishing for an Oscar. Let's just assume that everybody is fishing for a goddamn academy award, they're the most craved prize among actors and filmmakers period. But I seriously doubt DiCaprio is building a career around his quest for the little golden statue.

Concerning this project; It sounded good when Scorsese was doing it. If it is anything to go by (which it isn't) Scott and DiCaprio's previous collaboration Body of Lies was a bland piece of work. I know I'm in a minority here, but I have never quite understood why people praise Ridley Scott so highly as a director. I have never really loved a film he did apart from Alien. He's a reasonably good director but nothing special. Very few films he made have jumped out at me, even the ones considered classics.

I agree with you man. Alien has been the only real Scott film that I really love. I still need to watch Blade Runner again, but I don't love it like alot of people do. I liked American Gangster (it was better than Public Enemies that's for sure, now that was bland) I think Body of Lies was underrated, but the man hasn't made a truly spectacular film in years. Although I will admit, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Alien prequel.

Black Hawk Down is an amazing movie for what it tried to do; more realistic action/gore, less character development. And Gladiator is ****ing Gladiator. Other than those two and Alien, meh.

Two things:

1) I disagree with Carmy and The Docta! but love em both. :oldrazz:

2) Why should Leo do a a fart and vag joke comedy or a film where he's chased by a dude with an axe for 90 minutes? He picks quality scripts aimed at the older audience and long may it continue.

Oh, yeah I forgot about Black Hawk Down. That was his last truly great film. And I haven't seen Gladiator yet. :o

I like the guy, but he gets way too much love. I'll take him over all the Brett Ratner's anyday of the week but he can do alot better than the films he's done. At least he has a badass name. I mean Ridley Scott. That could be the title character's name in an action film.

But if Leo did something he usually doesn't do, I would watch it. But right now, he's hasn't done a poor quality film since Titanic. I've loved him and every one of his films last decade. He hasn't done any wrong so far. He's on a good streak, and he's one of the few actors in the business who know how to choose the right role and film.

Yeah, De Niro mixed it up real good. How'd that work out for him? Oh yeah, he's a ****ing joke of an actor now. Inception is probably the most blockbustery mainstream movie you'll ever see Leo in. Just deal with it.
People like you are what's wrong with the world. It's all about making sure your in the the most blockbustery (which isn't even a word ya ******, go back to school) movie & sucking from the tit of the mother wolf (Nolan) rather than doing what makes you happy & will take you into new territory as an actor. Your as a much a sell out as Dicaprio is. No wonder your avatar is faceless, I'd be to embarrassed to show my face either if I were you.

Uh huh.

I think you missed my point entirely. I wasn't saying Leo should be in more blockbuster fluff movies, you were. I guess him choosing not to be in romantic comedies and dumb action flicks somehow upsets your delicate sensibility.

Your as a much a sell out as Dicaprio is.

So being in an intelligent action movie directed by one of the most talented directors out there is selling out? You're probably right.

No wonder your avatar is faceless, I'd be to embarrassed to show my face either if I were you.

Your avatar is of a guy who ****s a vacuum cleaner.

It's spelled YOU'RE. :yay:

You suck, Steve.

Hahaha!

Anyways...I happen to like Ridley Scott's films. He's not my favorite director but I think he is a solid one. With him and Leo involved, i'll be keeping my eye on this one.

But this screams Scorsese to me. A man's life spiraling involved with the mob? Man, I think we're missing out.

Are you being sarcastic or serious?

Personally, i'm kind of glad Scorsese dropped out on this project for that specific reason. He's done plenty of mob movies, I like to see him work on other projects that are vastly different, like Shutter Island or The Aviator for example.

You people are forgetting Kingdom of Heaven. His best work last decade.

Serious. I just would hae loved to see Scorsese tackle Wall Street. His rapid fire style suits the energy of Wall Street.

True, I would agree with that too. He may realize it too. he's doing that children's novel film. In 3D. I hope he doesn't **** that up. At least he's open to it. I don't hate the technology, just the way people are using it. And I think people are getting confused with that. I would love to see stuff like Avatar, but not what we've been getting. I don't want to wait once every year to get quality 3D, I want quality 3D for every 3D released film if necessary.

Agreed but at the same time, even if every 3D movie from now on were to have great 3D, I still would be annoyed by the large number of films jumping on that. Lately, there's just been too many, to where it gets annoying at the end of trailers hearing/seeing "in 3D!".

Back On

Though news broke last year that Ridley Scott was taking over the proposed adaptation of Jordan Belfort's memoir, The Wolf of Wall Street, Vulture now says the project has fallen back into the hands of Martin Scorsese whose involvement in the film goes back nearly four years.

The project would star Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of Belfort, telling the rise-and-fall story of the founder of a brokerage firm in the late 80's and early 90's, who ultimately is sent to jail for financial fraud.

Vulture claims the project has already been given the go-ahead and that Scorsese will tackle it as his followup to Hugo Cabret with cameras rolling as early as this June.

Nice. I hope him and Leo reunite for this.

YES! I love DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese's collaborations, they are a great team and unlike Depp and Burton, I don't get sick of seeing them work together. Hope Leo will finally get an Oscar, guy has been deserving it for quite some time now.

This sounds good but I want to see the Sinatra bio first. If only Scorsese was 40.

Oh man, indeed. I hope he will get all these movies made, but there is hope indeed. After working on Boardwalk Empire's pilot he mentioned the excitement he felt about the process. He was saying something along the lines of planning a string of relatively-low-budget quickly-shot films, even referring to working like he did on Mean Streets. So, by all means, it looks like he is planning to get young again. :D

After "Wolf" I believe Scorsese's next priority is his film about the 3 priests with Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro attached, so I suspect The Irishman is on hold indefinitely unfortunately. I'm really interested in seeing another Leo/Marty collaboration though  Like all their previous films.

Well this is disappointing.

Now, The Playlist reports that indie Red Granite Pictures has picked up the rights to the project, with DiCaprio’s Appian Way still producing. The report also states that Scorsese has moved on from the project. The director is expected to helm his long-in-gestation 17th century Jesuit priest drama Silence after he finishes post production on Hugo Cabret. The script for Wolf of Wall Street was written by Sopranos writer (and Boardwalk Empire creator) Terrence Winter and tells the story of stockbroker excess in the 1990s. No word on when filming would begin, but with DiCaprio shooting The Great Gatsby later this year I wouldn’t expect any movement before sometime in 2012

I wouldn't even be surprised if DiCaprio dropped out.
