Marvel Continuity?

I always thought there were 3 eras if Continuity at Marvel..

1-The Lee/Kirby continuity. (The begenning, all of the stories that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did..the backbone of Marvel.)

2-The 70's and 80's. (When other writers took over, and continued what Stan and Jack started, like Peter David taking over The Incredible Hulk,Chris Claremont taking over Uncanny X-Men,and so on.)

3-No Continuity. (Basically the late 90's to present. To bring in new readers,Marvel rarely makes refrences to past events.)

How is it not false? The books I read reference the past all the time.

Yes, the past that the current writers have developed, with total disregard to the rich history of the Marvel U for fear that it would scare off new readers (a ******ed vision, by the way).

Brubaker has devoted whole issues to what came before him, from Cap and Bucky's history in WWII to Jack Monroe's entire history, it's all been steeped in continuity. Pak has been drawing from The Hulk's past and has even devoted an entire issue to the history of Rick Jones. So, saying that Marvel's current writers don't recognize continuity is just completely off base. Other books like Carey's X-Men have been building and building on what came before to create something new. That's something I have no problem with, either. If you're looking for every story to have some kind of connection to the past, I think you're looking in the wrong place. Not only would that be counterproductive to actually having these characters grow, but it would go against the entire idea of trying to gain new readers.
