There is a volume 5. It's just currently out of print, I think. It's the only one I'm missing. Can't find it anywhere.

I think there are 8 volumes out, it's just that 5 onward are hardcovers. I probably won't get those, just because the trades are so much cheaper, and I don't want to spend $50 on one.

I've never or even heard of them! So, you have 6, 7, and 8? Where did you buy them? I've never seen them at Barnes & Noble.

I think they go up to 8 so far. I have Volumes 1-6. It cracks me up how still so many people ask where to get issues or books that a comic shop most likely won't carry anymore. There is a little...actually big thing called Ebay. That's where I got the really hard to find Volume 5. Volume 5 has the issue Raimi used in the second Spider-man film, where he throws his costume in the trash.

Yes, yes, we know. Amazing Spider-Man 50: "Spider-Man No More" featuring the awesome cover with Peter Parker walking away, and Spider-Man in the background, also walking away in the opposite direction.

Does that Volume come in trade too, or is it just a hardback?

I have Marvel Masterworks vol. 1 & 2, but I think I'm just going to get that 43 years of Amazing Spiderman software which has ALL the issues up to June 2006. It's only like $45 compared to Marvel Masterworks, which is close to $50 each.

With the forthcoming realese of Amazing Spider-man Omnibus'. Does anyone else think that the Masterworks are becoming obsolete?

I'm not quite sure if there is a trade version for Volume 5. I know some of them have both. I have X-men volume 1 and Uncanny X-men Vol.2 & 3 in trade form. The rest I have are all Hardback.

That’s EXACTLY what I was going to post.
I'm going to hold off on getting any more Spidey MM, because the X-Men Omnibus is labelled as Vol1.
If there are more Spidey Omnibus' after No 1 then yes the MM line will be obsolete.

How many issues will the Omnibus have? The Marvel Masterworks are really expensive. I don't think I can keep getting them. I'll just get that software.

The Omnibus collects issues #1-38, including some annuals and extras. It's got a cover price of $99, but if you look on amazon or ebay I'm sure you can get it for somewhere around $60. So it's more expensive than a MM but it has more issues too.

Here's the volume 10 of the Masterworks series:

SPIDER-MAN'S MILESTONE 10TH VOLUME!

Prepare yourself for a collection of no-holds-barred Spider-Man classics that defined comicdom’s favorite super hero unlike any other! Starting off with the return of one of Spidey’s oldest foes, Doctor Octopus, the two archenemies set into motion a gut-wrenching series of events leading to the death of Captain George Stacy. Ally to Spider-Man and father to Peter Parker’s ladylove, Gwen, Captain Stacy’s death marks Spidey for murder and pits the entire city against him.

Now with hero, villain, and even the man-on-the-street after him, there’s no moment for rest for the ol’ Webslinger as he wriggles his through threats from the X-Men’s Iceman to the politicking Sam Bullit and former friend, the Prowler. And it all leads into one of the landmark moments of Marvel history, the Comics Code defying “drug” issues.

There’s no question Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics strove for a relevance that the competition could only dream of, and with Amazing Spider-Man #96-98 that mission was placed front and center—Peter Parker’s best friend, Harry Osborn, was revealed to be a drug addict. Letting a battle with Spidey’s nemesis, the Green Goblin, take back seat to the personal drama that scourged the real-life streets of the reader’s world, the Lee/Kane/Romita team set a new standard for the mainstream’s relevance.

Stan Lee pens some of his greatest scripts, chock full of edge-of-you-seat drama and up-to-the-moment politics, while the incomparable artistic team-up of John Romita and Gil Kane, launch into the most lavishly-illustrated and panel-bursting artwork to ever grace the pages of a Marvel comic. There’s no denying it, True Believer, these are Masterworks one and all!

Collecting THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #88-99.

Aloha,
MM came out many years ago. The original ones are collectors items. But having said that, for non Spider-Man fanatics, yo're getting more bang for the buck with the Omnibus.I collect both MM and the Omnibus. #101 is the next one in the Spider-Man series. It starts at Amazing #88. The only problem with the Omnibus is when they come out. We may have a big wait between Spider-Man Omnibus 1 and 2.

Why non Spider-man fanatics?

I now own three copies of the first Omnibus (The first priniting had inferior glue binding as well as slight issues with cropping the tops and bottoms of the issue covers and mis-spelling Steve Ditko's name at the back. The second printing corrected these mistakes as well as having much desired sewn binding. So I have a sealed copy of each as well as a third that I actually opened and read.) -That seems pretty fanatical to me!

Also, I have proof that some of the colouring in some of those Masterworks is seriously off anyway. So I think those Masterworks are a bit overrated.

Aloha,
Okay, you've established yourself as a Spidey fanatic:word:And you are correct regarding the coloring(which is probably a printing error not Marvel directly). At this point primarily because of the AGE of the MM compared to the recent Spidey Omnibus, do the MM have a greater value-collection wise. Quality wise the O has it.

I have all the originals (ASM #1 to current) as well as all the ASM Essentials as well as all the ASM Masterworks...

My wife wants to read them, but she can't hack the black'n white in the Essentials, and I won't let her read those early originals (call me anal), so I'm glad that I've been getting the MM's so she has something to read that she enjoys.

Thank you! :word: :woot:

I agree regarding the age of the original Masterworks. Not to mention the appeal that the actual issues there in are regular sized as opposed to oversized. Sure those first printings would take pride in any Spidey fan(atic)'s collection.

As for the Omnibus however, although the reproductions are of higher quality. I'm not sure whether the first printing of Volume One will be so desired in the future. The crappy glue binding really makes it harder to read. So it might be the case that the superior second printing might actually be more sort after...

You're lucky you have a wife who actually wants to read Spider-Man. :csad:

Yeah... she's pretty cool... she likes the Vertigo stuff (wants to read my HellBlazer's #1 to current), but like myself, we both discovered Spider-Man through the 60's cartoon (in syndication)... myself around 1972, and with her, around 1979.
