Marvel Solicitations for April 2011

Marvel's new intitiave, they think that the ".1!" will attract new readers....they still dont get it.

Yep. "Buy .1 for $2.99! Additional issues a buck more!!!" I can't wait for sales figures, and to see if DC starts clobbering them for still charging such a high price for some of their titles.

That would be John Jameson... not Flash Thompson...

:yay:

Or it could be Jameson as the new Venom. It's not out of the window...yet. Chameleon was posing as Steve Rogers and hanging around John. This most likely could be related to the upcoming Smythe arc. If Chameleon is in cahoots with them the chances of Flash being the new Venom skyrockets to 100% for me.

Peter Parker: Spider-Man, The Amazing/Bombastic Bag-Man, Dusk, Hornet, Prodigy, Ricochet, Captain Universe...am I missing anymore? :)

Spider-Hulk, Spider-Lizard.... :cwink:

I have no idea who will be wearing the symbiote... I was just correcting Dread when he thought Flash Thompson was all the alias' that were connected to John Jameson...

Edited.

John Jameson and Flash Thompson are on the list. Flash is probably the favorite based on a variant cover for VENOM #1, but John's still in the running.

The problem is that if December 2010 was just a fluke and the rest of Quarter 1 2011 is back to business for Marvel, they won't learn anything.

I agree that it is a terrible strategy. Marvel has milked the relaunch/renumbering angle so often that it both doesn't work anymore and they have no other ideas. The .1 initiative is a newer idea, but as you said, the higher price for most regular issues may not be enticing. More than likely, the .1 issues will merely drain an extra $3 from the same hardcore audience who is told that SHADOWLAND that had 30 comics within it was "mini". Marvel has scraped by the recession so far without paying any consequences for their "milk the suckers" strategy, but it will remain to be seen if 2011 shapes up like that. Marvel was starting to stagger at the end of 2010, least in terms of raw comic sales (which are maybe 40% of their intake now, at most).

Wow... I never thought I'd be going 2 or 3 months of not buying, anything, Marvel at all. Course I am still waiting for Ruse to come out for me to try, but unless it really hits me I have a feeling I'm finished buying New Marvel books, and will be spending time picking up old stuff and finishing my runs of their old Licensed books(Rom, Micronauts, Transformers, GI.Joe, Godzilla)

Go to mycomicshop.com. Older issues of Rom and Micronauts only sell for $1.00-$1.49 an issue, and a lot are NM - VF quality. (Plus, many times when I get Fine, it's a VF by many Ebay seller standards.)

I'm still trying to get back issues of Transformers and G.I. Joe from Marvel; but, those older issues get very, very pricey. (Luckily, I picked up the final issue of G.I. Joe back in the early 90's when it was cancelled.)

IDW is continuing to release the Marvel G.I. Joe series in TPB format, starting from where Marvel left off.

Spider-Hulk, Spider-Lizard.... :cwink:

Well yeah. But I was just listing the multiple identies that he called himself by name. (Though, to be fair, I'm not sure if he ever actually referred to himself as Captain Universe)

"Journey into Mystery by Kieron Gillen" put such a huge smile on my face I thought my head would split in half. :D :D :D

The fact that Fraction is still writing another Thor comic, on the other hand, wasn't quite as good. Sucks even more that he'll be dragging Coipel down with him now. :csad:

I wish they'd put up more of the "Thor goes to Hollywood" variants. Those are fun. I was chuckling at the Jaws one for a good couple minutes.

Oh believe me Corp, there WILL be more "Thor goes to hollywood" variants...

I know there will, and I look forward to them all. I just want to see them NAOOOW!!!1

But seriously, that Jaws one is awesome. I keep thinking of the potential trailer for it. "What happens when an irresistable force meets an immovable object? Find out next summer..." :hehe:

I'd like to see a Thor/Predators one but that'll never happen due to licensing. :(

Yes, it'll follow the other Asgardians during Fear Itself. The Mighty Thor is getting relaunched with a new issue 1 and Fraction continuing writing.

I am not a fan of Fraction's run on Thor!! Also the art is not to my taste as well! No wonder sales have fallen off!

I say they should get Walt Simonson to come back for another EPIC run?!

Simonson's not interested. He says all the time that he doesn't like going back to characters he's done before.

Gillen's pretty perfect for Thor, though. Or Mike Oeming. He could use some regular work when he's not drawing comic tie-ins for Valve's video games.

Oh man the Oeming run on Thor was AWESOME! Marvel should contract him and DiVito to work on Thor again!

That would be great. Oeming just did an Ares one-shot, so he's still in contact with Marvel and everything.
