Flash Thompson. And its not even for the Venom stuff. Marvel has made me lose total interest in Agent Venom. Its because of my genuine likeness of Flash and my genuine dislikeness of Harry.
Harry was better off dead. I literally only ever liked him in Spectacular 200, which was when he died saving Spider-Man. I feel like Harry's status quo as "Peter's best friend and brother" is as exaggerated as everyone's memories of Gwen Stacy as this perfect flawless girlfriend. I've reread the old ASM stuff, and I saw Peter and Harry as friends, true, but not like they were absoulte do-or-die bros forever friends as people remember them. I really think their relationship has been stretched farther than what it really was just for the dynamic there was in making Harry Peter's "best friend turned great foe". Which is fine except they really weren't "best friends" to begin with. It feels like a retcon just to add a glorified tragic element to the Peter-Norman-Harry triangle.
And what's worse is that Harry is ALWAYS destined to be tied into that Peter-Norman conflict. Which that's really all he's good for. Every story has him forever in the middle of Norman & Peter or Norman & Spider-Man. Its gotten old.
Flash, I liked how he and Peter matured together and went from being two guys who didn't like each other to proper friends, and I see them as being "realer" best friends than I ever saw Peter and Harry. And with Flash and Peter, you don't need to shoe-horn any soap opera drama to make them so-called interesting like with Harry.
