So I pick up the graphic novels of the Ultimate titles, X-men, F4, Spidy, Ultimates and the little side stories they do and the guy at the comic shop told me marvel is killing the line as of next month. What's up? Does anyone know any more about this?

I think Joe mentioned in his last "Cup 'o Joe" article that the line was changing, but would continue...however, im not 100% sure as i just glanced at that particular section real briefly (im not a real Ultimate fan :o )...

It's going to continue after Ultimatum for sure.

The only that will change will be certain characters moved around or even dead.

Ultimate Avengers by Millar is still happening and I'm pretty sure USM is still going to be around.

Your store guy is wrong.

He mentioned that the X-men and F4 book. He said they were ending in Feb. And Spidy some time later this year. It really scared me. I like the take on the Ultimate universe because it is different. I read both the 616 and Ultimate but to see one end just would suck.

Thank you guys for giving me a glimer of hope.

The Ultimate line doesn't really serve much of a purpose anymore now that the 616 comics are back to being the top sellers at the company, since both lines are targeted at the same demographics. Hell, Ultimate Spider-Man really isn't even different from 616 Spider-Man anymore now that 616 Spidey's an unmarried single guy who comes off pretty young.

Ultimate's taken its first step towards death (I hope) now that they're downsizing the universe.

Personally I think the ultimate line is needed now more then ever given the new status quo of the 616 universe. We need a comic that can bring things back to basics while another universe goes to hell(in a good way mind you). Personally I think they are cleaning house. Witht e exception of ultimate spiderman. Continuity has been shot in the other titles.

That's too bad. I've been out of comics for a while so haven't had a chance to really follow what's been happening with the Ultimate Titles. I remember back when they started there was a good amount of buzz/excitement surrounding them. It's funny how a new line meant to maybe allow writers more freedom/risk taking (without a huge load of continuity bungles) has veered into the same rut.

Although I can't say I'm too surprised. Marvel and DC are more focused on maintaining constant status quo over anything else. They've been doing it for over 50 years.

Ultimate X-Men ends with #100
Ultimate Fantastic Four ends with #60
Ultimate Spider-Man is continuing.
Ultimates Vol. 4 is in the works.
Ultimate Avengers is starting.

What's the difference between Ultimate Avengers and the Ultimates?

it's just really sad how quickly they managed to **** up the continuity in a virgin universe.

I mean really, if you can't get continuity within four books, there is something seriously wrong.

With UXM, I feel like all the writers were always trying to 1-up each other and see who could make things the most diff and radical. Kirkman F'n lost his mind in the middle of his run.

IMO...

USM- I've read every issue and it is an AMAZING series, far superior to ASM if for no other reason than it never had OMD as part of it

UFF- I've read every issue except the last 5 or so and find it significantly better than the regular MU FF. I periodically have picked up the reg FF and have never found it interesting. UFF on the other hand is interesting more often than not plus doesn't have reed coming off as a jerk (see civil war).

UXM- I've read everything up to somewhere around issue 75 and also find it superior to the reg X-line if for no other reason than that with UXM you get the whole storyline in one comic title whereas with the MU X line you have storyline all over the place. Now, I know you can read Astonishing X on its own, but I've read the first 3 story arcs for that and thought it was total crap (personal opinion).
I should also point out though that there was 1 story arc in UXM where the art was absolutely terrible all of a sudden. I don't know why.
Also with UXM you don't have them flying off into space every other issue (my pet peeve with x books).

Ultimates- First 2 arcs were, imo, the greatest comics ever made (with few others coming close). 3rd arc was utter crap (writer should be shot).
I'm sure 4th will also be crap and I HOPE they shut that line down.

Ultimate Avengers- We'll see. It's from the same writer that did Ultimates 1 and 2 so I have high hopes, though I hear Yu will be drawing at least one issue which irritates me cuz one of the good things about the ultimate universe to me was that I didn't have to see his sloppy art style (another pet peeve of mine).

Not surprising, really, given that all the writers most heavily involved in the Ultimate universe ignore continuity out of scorn 90% of the time.

Come on Bendis and Millar are nowhere near as bad as Loeb. Loeb flat out ignores anything and everything that came before him.

True, and garbage isn't as toxic as raw sewage. Just because Loeb is worse, doesn't mean Bendis and Millar are actually good with continuity. :o
