Mass Effect 2

I missed the DLC mention earlier in this thread. All this DLC almost made me forget about the first Mass Effect that went over a year between the TWO DLCs.

And the second DLC wasn't even done by BioWare. It was ****ing outsourced.

That's why BioWare had a definite DLC plan for the sequel, and that's why I'm waiting to hear it straight from them before I say there's only one piece of DLC left. Not to mention that when Hudson said, starting with LotSB, all subsequent DLC packages would be bridging from ME2 to ME3 as ME2.5, well, he made it sound like there'd be more than one DLC piece after LotSB.

I think they're just waiting for the PS3 version to come out, and then, if there is more DLC on the horizon, we should see it sometime in February. That way there's no whining that the PS3 version didn't actually come with all DLC, though there will be whining that BioWare purposely delayed new DLC so they could make the PS3 crowd have to pay for it.

As for the elevators, I never thought they were that bad, even when I first played the game. But in today's age of Xbox, just install the game to your HDD. It drastically shortens the elevator times.

Truth be told, I actually prefer the elevators to ME 2's interminable loading screens. If you thought there couldn't be anything less interesting than watching Shep and two other characters shift idly and look around, witness: ME 2's ship schematics. I don't f***ing care about the Normandy II's innards. At least the elevators allowed you to move the camera around and admire your facial sculpting on Shep.

Speaking of which, do you know if installing ME 2 cuts down on those load screens dramatically? Now that I've got a lot more space on my new HDD, installing would be totally worth it if I didn't have to look at those loading screens for so long.

I enjoyed the announcements in the elevator.

Yeah, those were cool. Putting them in those little news terminals in ME 2 defeated the purpose. They're nice to hear in the background as you're waiting for stuff to load anyway, but it's boring to actually seek them out and stand around listening to them when you could be playing the game instead.

Seriously? Installing games is what I do first before I play them. Not installed the elevator takes even longer? Good lord...

have a question on the best way to level a character..............

should I focus on levelling up one power first before moving on to another power?

For example, say I'm playing an Adept and I want to max out Warp. Do I save up my points and put all of them into Warp to max it out? Then repeat for another power?

Or should I distribute my points among various powers to create more "balance?"

Probably the latter. Point costs increase for each level of each power, so you'll wind up having to skip leveling anything in order to save up points to reach the highest levels of that one power you're focusing on. That means you're basically wasting those points for a level or two instead of investing them into something else.

ok thanks!

in later missions, do you earn more than 2 squad points at a time?

I'm just starting the game and in the early missions so far, it seems you only earn 2 points after each mission.............

I don't think the points you earn per level ever increases. You're not going to be able to level everything on every character up to its maximum. I think even Shepard doesn't get quite enough points to max all of his abilities by the end of the game.

I've been avoiding this thread just so things aren't accidently spoiled for me as I wait for the ps3 release, but man, just the demo has me hooked, I've played thru it about 8,9 times now, can't wait til january 18th

THE ILLUSIVE MAN IS SHEPARD'S FATHER!!!!!

;)

I think I remember reading that the elevators in ME1 are actually forced to be a certain length regardless of whether or not the level loading is done.

And strangely enough I actually prefer the loading screens but that may be because I HATE the tedium of waiting in a elevator, with a loading screen I can let my mind wander for a bit.

You just have no idea how much I despised the lifts in ME1.

Also I liked the comments between party members in the elevator.

But it doesn't hurt. It's not like the party members talk to each other much in ME 2, unfortunately.

The first couple times, I felt like they had the elevator rides a certain length, just so we could listen to those damn radio messages. I don't give a **** about them. I just want to travel from point A to B within a few seconds.

Honestly, with all the awesome technology, the stupid elevators totally ruin the immersion for me. So highly advanced, yet it takes hours to travel a couple floors.

Definitely. The banter in DAO is one of the things that made me love the game.

That would be nice. I hated how one or both of your squadmates would just kind of vanish into the background. I went to see Liara for the first time with Garrus and Tali, expecting a nice family reunion of sorts, but Liara only seemed to notice Shepard.

Its funny because just for a moment during ME2 we see the DA-style banter make a cameo when Tali and Garrus talk about the elevators for a couple of lines. Banter is really one of the few areas I still see a lot of room for improvement in.

Leliana talking with Sten about how she saw him play with the kitten, and he defending himself and saying he was just training it, is one of the most hilarious moments in DAO.

I'm kinda saddended to know that ME doesn't have any funny banter.

There is some in ME. Mostly from Wrex, as I recall. It's ME 2 where it gets cut out almost entirely. You'd think none of the characters even knew each other, even though several of them are very well acquainted from ME.

The loading times decrease, Corp. I think so, anyway. I've never made a timed comparison, and I won't start just because you request it! So nyah!
