Matt's Thread of Racing...

who is this guy?? he's got that wholesome look Nascar likes though

I am a casual racing fan at best, but it's always nice to see new faces win stuff

I think he drove Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the Camping World East Series. Then drove a little bit for Michael Waltrip Racing in the Nationwide series in 2009. Left there and drove for Roush Racing full time in 2010. Made first Sprint Cup start in Texas last season finishing 17th. Then made second Cup start Sunday and won. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

To be fair, and this isn't a jab at Bayne, as he did a great job. But anyone can win a Plate Race. So I wouldn't call him a superstar just yet.

You're right, but this is the Daytona 500. A nobody isn't supposed to win a race like this. The last time someone was in victory lane for the 500 that really shouldn't have won was Derrick Cope. Dale Earnhardt should have won that race anyway if it wasn't for the blown tire. This kid also took the Wood Brothers to a 17th place finish at Texas last year. In today's competition, that's pretty damn good. I think the kid is the real deal.

Very true. I need to see Bayne do well at tracks like Atlanta and Michigan to really see if he's going to be the next young star in Nascar. But yes, he deserves all the credit in the world for winning The 500. I would have been going nuts having to race in those tight packs at 200 MPH for 3 Hours. On TV the cars look like they're not even moving and are just going around in circles. But watch the On Board Cams and you can see the cars wobbling and jolting around. It takes a lot of skill to race at Daytona and 'Dega

Great to see Gordon back in Victory Lane last weekend

Anyone getting that new Nascar game? It looks like it'll blow the EA games out of the water

I'll buy it and try it out. If I'm not impressed then I'm done with NASCAR games for a while.

Yeah, but it actually looks pretty good. Like how they've made the CPU Racers race like they're real life counter-parts, and they get more aggressive as the race approaches its end. It'll be interesting, but I think, and hope, that it knocks it outta the park

I've always been disappointed in EA's Nascar games, though if I hear good things, I may look into this one, though anyone reviewing a Nascar game never seems to know what they're talking about. My biggest hope would be improved PHYSICS, PHYSICS, PHYSICS. I hate in every Nascar game how the bottom line is the only fast one to run. Anyway...

I credit the paint job for Trevor Bayne's win. Love the retro scheme.

Phoenix had me worried that this season would be just a crash fest with the points going haywire, like Edwards going from first the twelth, but Vegas seemed rather calm for the most part.

Also, did anyone else have a problem with the Nationwide race coverage this past week? Brad Kesolowski blows a tire on the last lap while leading the race and Mark Martin passes him for the win, and half of the coverage was about "Where's Danica?!?!?!" ? Every minute they had to check where she was running because "OMGZ she's in the top 5!!1!" and granted, that is a big accomplishment, but it's still highly aggrivating to give one driver so much attention for a a sorry reason (her looks).

In case anyone is an F1 fan, the season finally begins tomorrow. Time zones are a *****, but if you can catch it, catch it

^ Just decided I want to invest time in F1 so this year Im really going to follow it seriously.

And the pole position for Quantas has gone to Vettel (Red Bull) with Hamilton (McLaren) on second and Webber (Red Bull) on third.

I personally think Vettel will win this first race but I'm a McLaren junkie so Hamilton is the one I root for :) ... that is if Barichello cant come up with anything... I mean, they have said Williams got an awesome car this year so it should just be a matter of time no?

lol @ Buttons quasi-cheeting overtaking. Did he really think no one would notice that?

Otherwise that fight between Button and Massa was easily the highlight of the day!

Congrats to Petrov! Putin will be proud!

No KERS-awesomeness :(
But the wings who opened up was really cool :)

Williams where basically no where to be seen... damnit!

Yeah it was a pretty good race. The tire strategy was pretty interesting. How the hell did that Sauber (what was his name? Perez?) only do one stop?

He wasn't trying to cheat. He was getting frustrated with Massa and Alonso was on his ass. He made a desperate move on the outside on a turn where he shouldn't have done that move. Not enough room. To avoid locking his tires or wrecking, he had to dive through the corner. He knew he was gonna be penalized.

No doubt. Pretty entertaining

Im not so sure about that he knew he was gonna get somehthing for that... I mean, If he did, then why didnt he let Massa pass instantly after it happened? Instead, he was driving like he thought it was a legal pass :P

Picked Kyle Busch last week and Harvick to win this week in my race pool. Pretty happy about that. I'm loving the start of this season with the new points system. It's making things tight from the start. One bad race and you drop like an anchor. The racing has also been extremely good.

He thought he was ahead of Massa when he went through the corner. If he was ahead, it would have been a legal move. I think he would have gotten a warning for going off track or something but that's it. He didn't know what to do

This track looks really fun. The two straights in the middle has a real chance of becoming the starring role in this race methinks :) Only 20 hours left!

I wish F1 would let the drivers use this KERS system whenever they wanted in races. It'd make for some good racing all over the track instead of at one place

can't believe Sauber lost their points for their wing duct thing being outside regulation by a few milimeters despite it having no effect.

Agreed. Whats the point of having these extra features on the cars if theyre not allowed to use them? Sure to decrese accidents I guess, but these are professional drivers - its not like they gonna use it irresponsibly considering the amount of KERS-power they have. (well, okay, Barrichello is excepted from this statement :oldrazz:)

Damn haha Alonso was hungry today!

Really exciting second part of the race, especially when McLaren found out from the tv-brodcast that neither of the Red Bull cars had KERS. Too bad that Hamilton couldnt find the way to take advantage of that tho, he seemd to just have really really bad luck today.
