Max Landis writing Pepe Le Pew adaptation

Max Landis does have the haircut of a man that screams Skunk rapist.

His script as well as the film will probably stink.

Man, no wonder he talks so much **** on Twitter. He must be the cause of a lot of envy after landing this gig. Aaron Sorkin must be pissed.

I really don't understand the hate Landis gets from people on this board.

He has no class and respect for his peers. He ****s on directors, even the ones that use his scripts and calls their movies garbage. Whines like a spoiled rich kid that reviewers don't like his movies and blames other people for it or that they didn't "Get it". He literally hates Zack Snyder with a passion (Don't know why) and Tweets about his "Horrible movies" everyday. Only reason he's able to get these gigs is because of his last name. He would've been blacklisted a long time ago if that wasn't the case.

So are they just going to do movies based on all the Warner Brothers characters?

Eagerly awaiting the Pete Puma movie...

To me, Landis is exactly why one actively involved in this industry should never engage in Social Media. Needs a manager whose job is specifically to keep him away from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

He brings an insightful point-of-view to the conversation, and it's always good to be engaged in an outside opinion such as the Mary Sue debate on The Force Awakens. I couldn't disagree more on that topic but I understood what he was saying, and labeling him a sexist for that was profoundly immature. But that's the Internet for ya...

The problem is as a poster above stated, of the scripts of his that have been made only Chronicle was good. Everything else was terrible, and one can't lay the blame on everyone else for changing it. I like the guy but he has frequently said and done some grossly unprofessional things. Talks a big game... and then doesn't deliver.

As the old saying goes, "You don't talk about how the sausage is made."

He sounds like...this forum :o

Seconded lol. Thought the same, so he's hated with a passion because he's like 88% of the hypsters on here...

Should he be more reserved? Yes. But I don't see that as a reason for loathing the guy.

Maybe his talking about stuff is his schtick and keeps getting him work.

He's had to take lithium for a number of years, and still might for mood and behavioral issues, I think it might just be a reflection of the form of bipolar disorder he has. I have a friend (for real) who is bipolar and even with medicine he does very questionable things all the time, in a sense Landis reminds me of him. And before looking up what he has (cyclothymia) I already figured it may have ties to being bipolar or a form of it. That's why I give him a pass.

A lot of this isn't really in his control - in my view, because of that, don't really feel right in harshly criticizing him over it because he isn't wired like the rest of us, it would be like oddly judging a wheelchair bound person for being too lazy to walk, we've been given an off switch some of those who are bipolar haven't. So, just like I've learned with dealing with my friend with some things just gotta let it slide and acknowledge it's not really in their realm of control (and believe me he does some really wild and agitating "what the hell were you think?!" things) , which granted is hard to do because we luckily have no idea what it's like.

I'm not saying feel sorry for him. Just, I don't get hating the guy for something he really doesn't have a strong control over for legitimate psychological reasons.

Because he can't write worth a damn, he's only in the industry because of his dad, and he's incredibly obnoxious. And he continues to have trouble getting projects off the ground because of it.

Agreed. I'm not saying he's perfect. The guy can be grating. But the Mary Sue reaction was stupid, even on here the criticism got out of hand. My God, he tried to start an objective conversation with an idea that's rampant with female characters. Him suggesting something that could be a bad writing trope is not a bad thing people. I could see where he was coming from with that. I don't like John Landis either and I'm sure that attitude rubbed off on him, but at least he's using his name and not being lazy like many kids with famous last names do and do much worse. At worst, the guy is divisive and annoying. He ain't causing harm.

I think he's a better writer than people give him credit for. I like how he's always writing and even sharing ideas. Problem is, writers original scripts and work get pretty buried in the things that studios put above screenwriting... which is everything else. It's easy to blame the writer for a bad movie when it's usually the case the studios and director are the one to **** things up. Writers have no control over movies. Landis has a lot of great ideas and great premises but they seem to keep being wrecked which happens to most writers in the industry. You'd be surprised the amount of good writers that are attached to bad movies and if we saw what they were writing themselves or their own ideas, I can guarantee they would actually be pretty good.

Bright is the first of his "Out there" ideas he's pitched aloud that is actually getting made. Certainly sounds cool.

Well, I wasn't really focusing on any possible mental issues he may have. Just the fact that unlike most people in Hollywood, Landis is pretty open with his thoughts and how the business works. And yet, it doesn't seem to have hurt his career like one would think it would. So, his livelihood is doing just fine. On top of all that, there's the general obsession people (especially his haters) have for him.

My general annoyance is the people who will randomly bring up his thoughts in a thread, as if he it is important. Who cares about his "treatments" of various films, since if they aren't being used, they are essentially fanfic in terms of importance.

Wasn't pinpoint that on you, just took your comment and applied it in general.

A lot are basically condemning a bipolar person who has been psychologically diagnosed for being a bipolar person.

I don't think it would hurt his career a lot since a lot seem to know he is bipolar in the industry and give him more leeway because it is largely out of his control. I'd say they're cautious, but definitely more understanding than his online haters are because of that.

Why is Pepe Le Pew something that needs a movie. I wish these tired tropes would just be retired.

Because they're building to a Space Jam film that will usher in the new Looney Toones universe with animated spin offs of each character.

Bright is the first of his "Out there" ideas he's pitched aloud that is actually getting made. Certainly sounds cool.

Bright will be the big true test if he's actually a great writer since in television that's where the writer has control. But if Ayer is attached that gives confidence to the material.

Also, I notice how people dismiss Landis for his bad films and say it's his fault, but when it's something good like Chronicle he still gets dismissed and the credit goes to Trank (and if we're going with Trank that we know now, who gets credit then?) The logic of their terms is really mixed up here.

So as you can see, this is an example of the mentality of people critiquing movies. No matter what, the writer is never in the right. This comes from people undervaluing and misunderstanding writing in the industry that stems into culture. It's probably one of the reasons writers on a mainstream level get overlooked. Most of these writers attached to bad films aren't bad writers. Most likely they have great intentions to make a quality product but then you can't even blame them for good intentions not amounting to anything because they're not the ones who have control in the end. They always get the short end of the stick.

Even stranger since Pepe Le Pew was never even one of the more popular Looney Tunes characters. Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Tweety, even Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote would be more sensible if they had to make a movie about a single Looney Tunes character.
