Mermaid 2 sells 4 million DVD's in a week!! What obout X3???

I think I'm more in line with Ant. I think each film has it's plusses and minuses but ultimately they all even out, although I will always give X2 the slight edge as my favorite.

Which bodes well for those of us hoping for X4, right?

It would be nice if it can hit 10 million total sales. But I'd be happy with anything above 7 million copies.

Right. I would think these sales numbers would at least get Fox thinking about an X4.

I've conducted polls in the past, and X3 was always the highest in terms of which film in the trilogy people preferred most. I think the general public prefer X3 because it has more action, etc. Most die-hard fans prefer X2 though. Me, I like all three films equally, lol. I love X1/X2 for the drama, and smarts, but I love X3 for the action, fun, and chaos. It all equals out for me. :p

I couldn't agree more! :)

Well, I frequent the box office mojo site a great deal and I remember a year after it was released nielson had released the sales for that year and X2 had only sold a little over 5 million. So at the max it is probably at close to 7 now but the exact number isn't known. X3 is definitely going to pass X2 considering it's very strong first week sales.

Ahh, here it is. For 2003, X2 sold 5.3 million copies and was number 14 in the top 20 biggest sellers for 2003. That means that X3 sold almost as many copies in its first week as X2 did for the year 2003. Now remember, everyone who wants the movie rushes out in its first few months on dvd and then sales drop off considerably. So at max X2 may have reached close to 7, but I don't see it being more than that. Now with the trilogy pack, it will probably pass 7 mil.

X2 sold over 6 million units in its first week and grossed over $17 million in rentals in its first five days.

What's sad is that xXx was one space above X2 for 2003...now that is just sad. lol. I mean, xXx? While mildly entertaining on a popcorn level it was not the quality of X2.

You do realize that xXx was released in April, which is 9 months prior to the release of X2? X2 was released November 25th. That means X2 almost grossed more during the whole 4 weeks left in 2003 than xXx did in nine months.

I cannot comprehend the above sentence.

Though, in a funny story, I was the DJ at a game of "Name That Tune" at a local pub last weekend and one of the team names was "I Don't Care What You Think, I'd F*** the Little Mermaid"

lol... animatic perversion

I hope you realize that total is with both DVD and VHS combined...what I put in my previous post still stands...as I counted only DVD's.

X2 is X2 in whatever version you'd like it . . . and I'm sure a number of those people were unfortunately forced into buying DVD versions to replace their dead technology. As a whole, the X-Men franchise will continue to rake in tons of money. I'm looking forward to seeing the HD translations myself.

I'm looking forward to the HD version as well...although, Fox needs to release for HD-DVD as that is the better format. I'm not a big blu-ray fan.

X3 sold five millions the first week, says the main page. More evidence that a lot of the harsh criticism on the movie is fanboy-oriented.

I'll certainly be getting one of these when i go to the store.I watched the VHS so many times when i was little that the tape inside burst.

Agreed, the movie was fun and I actually want to see it again on DVD, I never have had a great urge to see the first two again.

I have to wait till next month for Mermaid lol.

I'm sure the Mermaid will be cheap on black friday... ;)

It also accounts that the DVD for The Little Mermaid will be forever locked in the "Disney vault" so this a once in a lifetime chance for people to buy it, while X3 will still be sitting in the shelves.

^ Forever maybe as far as a regular DVD release. I know they say that but then what happens when HD and Blue Ray DVD's make DVD's obsolete, or when something else makes those obsolete like video servers.

I just flat out like X3 the best, X1 next and X2 last, and I'm glad X3 is doing beyond well...and making haters angrier.;)

Right there with you about X3.

X3 in the UK is number 1 in the dvd charts so it must be doing well.

It shouldnt be surprising childrens movies are making more money than anything else.

Pirates. Made all that money because it was a family movie. That's whey big actors are being casted as voices for animated films. ie julia roberts -- ant Bully
