I've read the script - I think Merrick gives a grossly incorrect impression of what CASINO ROYALE is all about. CASINO ROYALE's screenplay is pretty much any die-hard Bond fan's dream: a really solid back-to-basics Bond story with the emphasis on suspense instead of action and with some genuinely witty dialogue.

remember now, you definition of a die-hard bond fan may be different from someone else's. I've seen all 20 movies, some a lot more than once, know all the stories, trivias, and tidbits, the movies have to offer, but i haven't read a single bond book. Does that really make me any less of a bond fan? My image of bond is what is established from the movies, not what the novels intended him to be.

I love what they are doing with the character, and i'm very hyped about it, just because i appreciate movie-makers when they respect the source material, whether it be bond, LOTR, or any other superheroes...but just because i'm willing to give it a shot doesn't mean the general public will...while BOND fans might enjoy it, the general public just might not get it...i bet you'll hear people saying, where's Q, what happened to the gadgets...etc.
