I think its probably a shift away from guys having to prove they're 'not gay' by acting tough. Now alot of guys know that you can look good and catch the attention of the opposite sex at the same time

So, I'm writing a paper for my "Gender & Cities" class, and my thesis is that metrosexuality is the natural evolution of the male identity as women achieve equality in urban society, thus discarding traditional gender roles.

I'd like to know what peoples' thoughts are on things like male spas, David Beckham posing for a gay magazine, or the modern metrosexual's focus on simply himself.

Is it merely attention grabbing, or do you think metrosexuality is just a fad and normal working man / housewife roles will be re-assumed?

(By the way I'm 3/4 done my paper, so I'm not fishing for ideas. I just want to start a discussion on this modern phenomenon)

I actually think that the current (or is that previous?) trend of metrosexuality is becoming a thing of a past, in favor now of the increasingly popular "grunge" look.

Metrosexuality has very little if nothing to do with the "natural evolution" of the male gender role. Very simpily it is just a trend. And trends come and go.
