After winning the Golden Globe Sunday for “Behind the Candelabra,” Michael Douglas has found a high-profile new gig as scientist Hank Pym in Marvel’s “Ant-man.”

Edgar Wright is helming the pic from a script he wrote with Joe Cornish.

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Plot details are being kept under wraps. Feige is producing.

Marvel had pursued Douglas early on for the part, but the actor was cautious until sources said he had a change of heart over the holidays.

Douglas is repped by WME.

Incredibly cool and interesting casting choice. Anticipation for this film just keeps building for me – and it was pretty damn high to begin with.

Insane casting. Not at all what I was expecting.

But I'm still in.

waaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!
not sure if I'm excited (because that def. rules out pym as an avenger which is a goddamn shame) but it is absolutely mind blowing casting.
so we need a jan now that looks the same age as douglas? betty white?

Fascinating casting but count me among those disappointed that now we won't be seeing Hank and Jan together in the Avengers.

It is disappointing but I'm still loving it for some reason...it's like some kinda black magic voodoo s**t that Marvel is pulling on me.

Wright has been quite clear from the beginning with his intention of doing "To Steal an Ant-Man" with an older Pym. Comic purists will call foul; I say it sounds incredibly interesting and cool.

Wow another great casting choice. Just give me a good movie, I don't care who's doing what haha.

Great casting choice. I admit I am sad that we wont be having the regular young Hank and Jan, but I'm interested in seeing how this all works out.

I say it's both. a bold move that really angers me but very interesting and with a lot of potential.
that said, this is probably the second biggest star MS has ever cast, just after Redford and I can't wait for Pym to crossover with the Nova Corps for a Douglas/Close reunion

Disappointed we're not getting Hank and Jan together, but holy **** great choice! Fresh off a Golden Globe last night!

CBMs have definitely come a long way!

I didn't see this coming either! I've been so occupied with Batfleck and Luthor, etc, that I almost forgot about Ant-Man....shame on me.

this is really, really surprising, and pretty frickin awesome

I'm not a big Ant-Man fanboy though, so I'm not in "disappointed-its-not-pym" camp, I could care less about Pym, Lang was always a bit cooler, and now with Douglas, I imagine Wright will make Hank much more interesting than he ever came off in the comics

So if Wasp is old, this means that we still might have Lang ant-man interacting with greater MCU in the future, but no more Wasp.?

well hey, Douglas goes for younger women in real life, so why not in the film too??

Maybe they’ll change the relationship between Hank and Janet to father/daughter instead of husband/wife.

Can't wait to see how all this talent pulls together; almost surreal to imagine Wright, Rudd, and Douglas all working on the same movie.

I can't wait to see this films full casting. So far, its off to a great start!

Great actor, but I was hoping for a younger Hank Pym though. I was hoping he'd be roughly the same age as the Avengers cast. But Douglas looks at least 20 years older than Downey Jr., Ruffalo, Evans, and the rest of the Avengers.

But, I'll trust that Marvel knows what they are doing. So far so good.
