Michael Emerson should play Adolf Hitler in a big screen biopic

NotFadeAway..you dressed up as Hitler at a party..umm..do you have a fascination with him. I hate to bring this up, but you have a thread dedicated to Hitler, and you dressed up as him for Halloween.

I do, I have a Bachelor degree in History for one, and I love German history as a whole, and I find Hitler to be a fantastic case study as a person. The effects of Hitler are still relevant today.Via a domino effect, I believe Hitler set the stage for 9/11 and the war with Iraq. I feel the need to say I'm not a Nazi and that I find Hitler to be one of the closest forms of pure evil to ever wear human flesh, but thats what made him so interesting to study.

Again, I find the history of the German culture very fun and interesting to read about, from the days of the Germanic tribes that have the Roman Empire fits and onward. I have other favorites, but German history is one of them.

As for the Halloween costume, evertyime I dress up for Halloween, my goal is to get a reaction by using any means necessary. Combining that with my natural love of History, I threw on a green military outfit, made a little Nazi armband, gave myself a marker mustache, fixed my hair correctly, and walked around doing the Heil Hitler sign all night. What made it even better is, one of my best friends roommates is Jewish, and he went out with me dressed in a Superman t-shirt in which there was a Judenhut on top of the Superman symbol, and it said SuperJew underneath. I've also went to Halloween as a pedophile, walking around in a trenchcoat, boxers, and flip flopes while trying to show off my ether collection and give away candy, and I went as Terri Schiavo, which was a pain in the ass because of the props but totally worth it.

Does anyone watch those Nazi documentaries on the History Channel and the Military Channel? Those are great to watch.

I wouldn't want Hollywood anywhere near an Adolf Hitler movie. Um,how can I put this? I'm not a Nazi or anything like that but Adolf is,for me,the most fascinating man in all history. I can't get enough of the guy. I watch every movie/documentary I can about him. But I also like to see history as accurate as possible. Hitler, despite being "evil," was a great communicator, highly intelligent and a smart political leader. I would want an honest bio about him,but Hollywood would only screw it up. I can't picture a Hitler movie by a Jewish filmmaker(like Spielberg)being anything but a horrible anti-Hitler rant. I think back to the tv movie Hitler:The Rise of Evil. Not only was the film itself bad,but the filmmakers went out of their way to make Hitler seem so inhuman and monsterous that by the end of it I was surprised they didn't give him a tail and horns. :whatever: I can't remember his name, but the biographer who wrote the book the film was "based" on even quit the movie because of all the historical facts that were changed around.
The best picture having to do with Adolf was Germany's wonderful "Downfall." The film was spectacular, and most importantly, they also showed Hitler as a complex human being.

For years, I have dreamed that there would one day be a big screen, oscar worthy film detailing the life of Adolf Hitler. The guy was perhaps the closest thing to pure evil that the world has ever known, and that is screaming for a big screen movie. Imagine how chilling and powerful the movie would be if done right.

I've looked around forever trying to find the perfect actor to play Hitler, and I've been leaning toward Emerson for some time now, but I wasn't certain, until last night on Lost, I saw Emerson with longer hair in flashbacks, and when I imagined the mustache, I became 100% sold. The guy can play a character that is evil, yet still, he can make you like him. Emerson can win you over with words, he can give powerful speeches, and can commit truly evil acts and come across as justified. Michael Emerson is perfect to play Hitler.

As for Director, I don't know yet. The usual list would be Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, Frank Darabont, etc. But I'd like to find a young, under the radar Director who needs his big film.
Are you producing this movie?

Emerson does look the part though, he's got the eyes

He looks like Steve Carrell.

Why not a prequel to Downfall starring Bruno Ganz? Maybe following the years 1933-39?
