I did a search and didn't find any threads on this, so...

Two thoughts:

1. What is this, I don't even.
2. God help me, I actually want to hear a full version of his most likable song ever.

Just for fans of Sidebottom.. It isn't about him. Still looks good though,

I suspect this is one of those movies I will love and annoy people by talking about a film nobody else has seen.

I'm in. Looks goddamn weird, and I'm all about it.

This might be my favorite trailer ever. I can't imagine not loving this film. Fassbender and Glesson are gonna kill it. And who doesn't want to hear the rest of his most likable song? :D

Maggie Gyllenhaal seems more at home in weird indie stuff like this than in things like TDK.

I remember Frank Sidebottom who was this oddball comedic character with a papier-mâché and weird voice.

He was the inspiration for the movie although Fassbender is playing a completely different character.

It might not actually be about him and his life/career but after looking up Sidebottom on Google, this film was sure as hell inspired by him.

Oh I know. I just thought I'd tell any fans it isn't a bio about Chris Sievey.

Right on. The movie looks pretty entertaining and it's great to see Fassbender play a character where his face isn't shown with how big he's become. Some actors I feel might think that was beneath them not getting their face to shine on the screen.

Film's great!
Can't wait to download the soundtrack. It's going to have songs that weren't in the film!

Some additional observations:

#1: There better be a Best Original Song nomination for this movie, just to get Fassbender performing it live at the Oscars with the big head on.

#2: Every poster from now on should type their facial expressions at the end of every post.

#3. Ambivalent, somewhat bored half-smile.

I was surprised to see this film on my British Airways flight. Damn, they had a good line-up of films on that flight.

It was an excellent flick. Poignant ending.

I'm very curious about this movie :woot:

I found the film really funny. There should be more comedy movies about dysfunctional bands.

Put your arms around me, fiddly digits, itchy britches.

Sadly, i've no idea when/if this movie will be released in my country :csad:

A friend of mine prepared me for how deep it goes in terms of the film being somewhat of a commentary on mental illness. They try to sell you on this idea that Frank is some sort of savant, when really he has serious mental problems that few people really know how to deal with. And it can be incredibly lonely at times for him to be locked in his own mind in a way. It was hard to watch some of the scenes near the end, [BLACKOUT]especially when it became clear how much Gleeson's character had screwed things up, even if he hadn't realized it yet. I didn't expect to see Fassbender without the fake head at the end, though.[/BLACKOUT]

Holy thread resurrection Batman.

I finally got round to watching this last night. I thought it was absolutely brilliant. The entire cast is great, but Fassbender in particular really shows his chops in this, considering his face is hidden for the majority of the movie.

It's a very funny, very touching, very thought provoking and at times sad/sentimental film. It's very rare for me to watch a film where the central protagonist - in this case Gleeson, not Fassbender - makes you root for him one minute, hate him the next, then back to rooting for him .... and repeat. The film hooks you and reels you in.

It's also a strange and quite unique film. My wife is very into vanilla thrillers/romcoms/etc and didn't really get the themes in this, she thought it was bonkers rubbish. Each to their own I guess. I thought the whole film as a commentary on mental illness, music and friendship was just amazing.

Also ......
that final song is so catchy. I've listened to it on Youtube 3 times today already lol. I had no idea Fassbender and the rest of the cast all played the songs themselves, they weren't dubbed in later or anything...... they learnt them and practised the instruments.
