The Amazing Spider-Man Michael Fassbender to play villain?

Also, if X-Men ends up being awesome, he'll probably will have a long-term gig due to the sequel. Unless he becomes the new Norman Osborn, I think he'll be one-shot villain in Spidey.

He might as well just be Magneto. Better suited for that role IMO.

tho, I agree that he seems like he'd make a great magneto.... without knowing what role is up for, I couldn't really make the call on rather or not mags would be the better role.... I sure he'd play either role just fine

he was in inglorious basterds and was in the most intense scene in the movie...and stole the show with the edge of your seat dialogue and brilliant acting. you have to see it.
i want him for norman osborn!!
Took the words right outta my mouth. He'd made a great norman

Actually, Y'know the Villain Fassbender was born to play? Bullseye.

Because he was "too odd looking and didn't have a human face."

Wait, wasn't that Raimi's thing though? He never wanted the villains or even Spidey himself to be wearing their masks for too long in the final battle.

I don't really get the odd-looking part...was this said before the giant Sandman fiasco or before a Spider-Man 4 was thought of going into pre-production?

Yeah, but we're not suppose to blame anything on Raimi...just Sony.

Who knows who did not want Lizard for that reason, or if it was even a true rumour, but in the report i read, it clearly stated Sony did not want a villan with a non-human face.

He's the next biggest villain that hasn't been used, studio or director, would be idiots not to use him, because of an asinine reason such as not being able to see his human face. James Cameron CGI'ed all of his leading cast and made an almost 3 Billion dollar franchise with one movie. Get with it already.

Oh, and if it is The Lizard, let WETA handle the visual effects.

I think I remember hearing that Sony said that. No matter who it was, it's a stupid reason.

Venom/symbiote = non-human face.

Giant Sandman = non-human face.

Scarred-up Harry = non-human face, lol.

Can anyone find a link to Sony actually saying that about Lizard?

You saw the human faces of all of those more than enough times, though.

I'd also like to say that the dude looks plenty lizardy to me.

Yah, and...Dr. Connors can show up as much as Lizard in the film, so I don't see it being a huge issue that Spider-Man will be facing a man-lizard.

But, I assume we will never be seeing Morbius or even Morlun in the reboot series then, haha.

As much as I want some good news for this reboot, I'd have to say he is a great fit for Magneto and X-men needs a good movie after two fails. Spiderman has only one F*** up, so Magneto it is.

According to Movieline, this also means that Dr. Curt Connors (played by Dylan Baker), will continue to have his transformation into the supervillain the Lizard on the backburner, as execs are skiddish about another villain that doesn’t have a human face. At best, his character will continue to lay waiting, possibly for future Spider-Man adventures.

It seems very likely this is true considering what they did with the villains in SM3. Harry not really being a goblin and only wearing that ridiculous paintballer's mask for the first minute of his fight with Peter and whenever Venom talked he peeled back his symbiote to have Topher's face revealed to deliver all the dialogue. You can't do anything like that with Lizard. It's probably why the studio was resisting using him.

With it saying "another villain that doesn't have a human face", it sounds like they weren't too thrilled of Venom(remember, it was Arad who wanted Venom, maybe Sony wasn't too thrilled about the idea) and the giant Sandman. But then again, Venom had zero screentime and Eddie's face was showing more than anything. But giant Sandman was throughout the final battle.

Maybe they found some way to have Lizard's face still look like a lizard, but also having that human-like feel to it where you know that that was Dr. Connors, and the guy who plays him.

But, if Lizard isn't in this movie, at least this could be a sign that we will never see Hulk Goblin.

Maybe Avatar inspired them to want to push the limits with some CG. They've consulted James Cameron and are using what he used for the 3D in Avatar.

I would think District 9 inspired them more than Avatar in terms of CG usage. If Spidey's only getting about $80 million, then perhaps they have found a way to use all of that money in good use, as D9 did with only $30 million.

Like you said, Avatar mostly inspired them because of its 3D use. Which, I gotta hand it to Cameron, he was right when he said studios shouldn't go all crazy with having every single movie in 3D. At least that's one smart thing he has said or done.
