Microsoft Surface: Behind-the-Scenes First Look

I mean, it's the type of thing someone would buy and then invite all their friends over to see it. There will be some ooh and ahh's but eventually (2 days tops) the novelty wears off and you have a $10,000 coffee table.

Exactly.

...you know it can be used in other things than a coffee table, right? It could be a traditional moniter, if you wanted it to be. It could be a whole f**king wall if you wanted it to be.

BTW, the Iphone is a great idea, but I liked it better the first time when it was called a PDA..."But there's a phone in the Iphone!" Yeah, real innovative, there's a phone in f**king everything now-a-days.

Oh snap, an Apple hater! Jag jump on it.

I don't hate apple, I just you know, am not a giant apple zombie as most of the people in this thread appear to be. There computers are great for graphic design and video editing (iMovie is still the best video editing program I have ever used, and will probably remain that way). And they do have quite a bit of stability over windows OS. But going "LOL! Coffee table!" is just ******ed. Also, the Zune is a great little piece of hardware. It's more durable than an iPod (I dropped mine on cement, knocking off the face plate, just snapped it back on and it works perfectly), and has a better warranty than the iPod. But that's another debate for another time.

Yeah, iPhone's a lot more than a PDA by far. That's the least of it's functions, really. But, it's not for everyone. *somepeoplelikecrapshrug*

Oh, and, yeah.....LOL! A friggin' coffee table! Hah! :oldrazz:

It can connect to the internet, just like a PDA (pocket PC), it has a phone in it (everything has a damn phone in it), it has a camera (like some PDAs), it has a touch screen (PDAs), date book, etc (PDAs)...yeah, not seeing much innovation there, sorry...plus it's rediculously expensive, and the phone plan for it is even more so.

Clearly it is not a device for you. *shrug*

clearly it is not...now, in the future when the price drops a bit, I'd consider picking one up...and by a bit I mean hundreds of dollars...same with the MS Surface, cause that's just too f**king cool :o

Ive been following the table since concept-Sorry but no.,,,You wont be owning one.
Its something that will be in Casinos first and to a lesser extent malls.
Maybe in 20 years it will be cost effective enough to market for the public.Until then just watch Minority Report again and again

Not to sound condescending in any way, but have you tested the iPhone out for yourself?

Touch interface aside, it's not revolutionary, no. But it's a lot more than a checklist. I've tested out smartphones very similar to the iPhone, and they can't even come close to the ease of use. Honestly, I haven't seen a phone that matches the unification of so many features into such a slick and easy interface. That's what makes it such a standout product.

I don't see this for home use in the near future. Retail joints like hotels would benefit from this as would airlines if they chose to. Its supposed to be tailored to the retail operation and I see credit card recognizability as part of the bundle. The applications for this from a retail standpoint are very diverse and I could see this taking off.

sidenote: I won't be buying an iPhone until I see better capabilities like landscape typing, 3G support and expandable memory.

Well yeah, considering it cost between 5-10k. Durr. :cwink:

Yeah, I'll prolly buy the 2nd generation of the iPhone. Most definitely by it's third generation if anything, as surely the storage would have exponentially increased by then. That's really the only thing keeping me from getting one.

BTW, landscape typing is already there.

I'll consider an iPhone when the second generation comes out as well.

Well I have used it for like 4 hours in total at the Apple Store (:o), so I should know. My word ain't enough now?! :cmad:
