One if the best players in red sox history. Known as the gator because of his menacing glare, Greenwell had great stats and could be a hall of famer. How would you vote?

What stats of his were "great" exactly?

His .831 career OPS?

His one season where he broke 20/100?

Not even close.

Dale Murphy has better stats than Greenwell & he's not in the Hall. So, the answer to your query is no.

Absolutely not. And I'm as big a Sox homer as you'll find.

And Dale Murphy should be in the Hall. As should Louis Tiant.

The fact that Dale Murphy isn't in just makes me sick. One of the greatest players I've ever watched.

Maybe if Greenwell got a new heating system......:oldrazz:

There are a lot of position players from the second deadball era which I'll say started in Koufax's last year in '66, peaked in '68 when MLB had to lower the mound after Gibson threw up a 1.12 era, Mclain won 30 games, and Yaz won the batting title hitting .301, and had a nice long plateau until the start of the Steroid Era in the '94 strike season.

So I say that 1966-1993 was such a pitcher's era that tons of position players deserve a look. Not Mike Greenwell but others for sure. What's funny is we've seemingly returned to that '70s/'80s status quo of pitching dominance. The only difference is glass armed starters leading to the proliferation of crappy relief pitching.
