MiracleMan

If Marvel and Gaimen have a deal worked out like the wiki said... why don't they just change the name of the character Captain Miracle, Marvelous Man, Kimota or Atomic Man, they already have a character named Miracle Man that is a magitian... so they could even use that name. Why not write the new character as the magitian's protégé like the original Captain Marvel?

I think they'd have to change more than just the name of the main character...

Yes, names would have to be changed and possibly logos but thats about it.

You can't copyright or trademark an idea. So the idea of a Superman type character is free for anyone to use.

That is why every company has a version of Superman or Tarzan.

I could write a Shazam/Marvelman/Miracleman and as long as it was different enough to not be confused with the others it would be legal.

That's true. It's not too often Hollywood has done that though. Their great movies tend to rely on an already existing source to drill into, extract bits+pieces, then aim for a mass market.

Just look at all the comic book movies. Most of these aren't critically spectacular from a character/story point of view.

The culture back in "the glory days" seemed more defined than it is now. Back then there were certain styles/trends that everyone seemed to follow. The '90's simplified everything and opened up to the 21st century.

Got issues 1 - 7 of Moore's Miracle Man. Awesome stuff. Awesome stuff.

I would think MiracleMan is the best comic that isn't well known.

Yeah, I wouldn't have checked it out if it wasn't written by Alan Moore. After reading From Hell, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta this summer, I was interested in seeing what other stuff he wrote.

From what I've heard, Promethia seems to be the most generally well-liked out of Moore's ABC line. I've read the Top 10, Forty-Niners, and Smax storyline just these past few weeks. While I like Moore's writing in the 80's/early 90's better, I still got a kick out of the cleverly written dialogue, in-jokes, and ton of obscure references in the background on each page.

In that mindset we're still in the ass end of the 20th century. The technology has changed a bit but that's all.

I hate to sound like a fanboy but just about anything Gaimen or Moore write I
love. I think it's because I like hero comics but I like a nice mix better... and things like MM, Watchmen, V-vendetta, Terra Obscura/Tom Strong etceteras add a lot of diversity.

Some of my favorite lesser known comics are The Crow, Shi, Grendel, Avengelyne, Magdalena, The Rocketeer, FemForce, Give Me Liberty, Astro City... I like the new Lone Ranger too.
