Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch delayed to December 4
Published 18 hours ago. 24 comments.
"Unforeseen difficulties" in the production of the physical edition.

Monster-Boy-Delay_10-04-18.jpg

Publisher FDG Entertainment and developer Game Atelier have delayed Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom from its previously planned November 6 release date on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch to December 4.

The delay is a result of “unforeseen difficulties” in the production of the physical edition, which forced the publisher to reschedule. The physical edition will be released for PlayStation 4 and Switch.

“It turned out that the physical goods manufacturing takes longer than initially planned and we could only choose between rushing out in time or complete the Day-One edition properly with keeping our promises of its content,” FDG Entertainment said.

“There was no question: we’re now reaching a five-year production cycle of Monster Boy and it didn’t make sense to us to have an incomplete physical release so we decided to give the manufacturing process more time so the physical release can shine as the game itself. So much polishing, so much work – we don’t want to see a half-baked physical release.”

FDG Entertainment clarified that “the digital and physical release are tightly linked to each other, so this means the game release will take place on December 4 for both the digital and physical release.”

A PC version of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is due out in Q1 2019.

Game Atelier's critically acclaimed Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom released in December of last year, bringing with it the classic look and feel of Sega's iconic Wonder Boy series.

Just a couple of months after the game was released, the developer began teasing that a free demo of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom would become available for the Nintendo Switch; eventually releasing in March of this year.

While Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC(Steam, GOG), the game's demo had not been made available for the PlayStation 4; that is, until now.

Today, FDG Entertainment has announced that not only is the Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom demo for PlayStation 4 becoming available today, but it also gives players the chance to play as the frog transformation; the music from the Crystal Caves and The Lost Temple should be enough to convince anyone, to be quite honest.

Game Atelier and FDG Entertainment will be teaming up once again to work on a brand-new title, the developer and publisher announced earlier this week — which is exciting news, as they developed the phenomenal, and very well-received Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.

As per the announcement, shared on FDG Entertainment's official Twitter account, they are looking forward to reveal their "new and even more ambitious project sometime in the future," praising Game Atelier for making Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom such a great game.

Game Atelier replied to FDG Entertainment's tweet by stating that they're proud to be teaming up with them "and their truly brilliant team" again; hinting that they will be showing them more information about this mysterious new title.

With all the information revealed by FDG Entertainment and Game Atelier, it is impossible to know what this mysterious new game could be.

Could this new game be another Monster Boy title? Maybe a brand-new spiritual successor to an old game in the same vein that Monster Boy was to Sega's Wonder Boy series? Whatever it is, this is certainly some exciting news for fans of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.
