Take this with a grain of salt but rumor has it that Monsters Inc. 2 will be a prequel.

Monsters Inc. 2 will take us back to before a time when Mike Wazowski was top comedian, before James P. Sullivan was top scarer, even before the buddies joined the MI workforce. In fact it takes us all the way back to school — the University of Fear to be precise. Although the two start out as frenemies, Monsters, Inc. 2 will weave the tale of how the dynamic duo transition from rivals to BFFs.

It's smart if it was a prequel because Monster's Inc. ending was completely perfect.

yeah thats smarter
However I wish theyd explore more original ideas or at least more deserving sequels/prequels

And that's the thing.

I don't mind if Pixar did sequels and spread them out and sprinkle them between the original stuff..

But having 3 sequels in a 3 year radius is off-putting and it feels like they are having a hard time coming up with original ideas, hence Cars 2 and Monsters Inc 2 being fillers. (Toy Story 3 isn't a filler, so I'm not dismissing it.)

You have Brave, but one is not enough.

Mike and Sullivan as rivals it's not a bad idea, if it's true I wouldn't mind with this approach.

I'm down for a prequel.

And I don't think we'll ever see an Incredibles 2. I think the ending of The Incredibles was Bird poking fun at superhero movies always setting things up for a sequel.

Anyone else start humming some songs from Wicked when they heard that?

"Who can say if I've been changed for the better but because I knew you...I have been changed for good"

Rivals turned best friends? Sounds like "Toy Story" but with Mike and Sully.

well in this case, it's more for a legit job than getting the affection of someone.

Monsters Inc. Sequel Titled Monsters University.

The sequel to Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc. has a title: Monsters University.
Disney revealed the moniker at its presentation at CinemaCon Tuesday.

Sully/Goodman and Wazowski/Crystal are expected to be back as will monster bad guy Randall Boggs (voices by Steve Buscemi).
Disney has scheduled the sequel for a 2012 release.

The premise for the new movie is under lock and key although Disney said it will be a prequel.

I'm glad that it is a prequel instead of a sequel.

The ending for the first one was perfect that there's no need to show what happens afterwards. Me personally think it's an interesting idea and I think that Pixar wants to tell a good story with the world they created or they wouldn't move forward with this project, I mean the first one was released 10 years ago.

Yeah Im really happy they didnt ruin the awesome ending of the original

Im not that big a fan of prequels. But Im open to it

I'd be interested to see Pixar's approach to a prequel.

I loved Monsters Inc. So I am definitely happy to see a sequel, better than getting a sequel to Cars IMO. :o

Where is my Incredibles 2 :csad:?

Mosters inc. is one of my favorite pixar films so i am excited for the prequal.

Um.. don't you mean prequal?

There are some movies that Pixar makes that could have a sequel, some that would be perfect with a sequel and some that shouldn't have no sequels.

Monster Inc could have a sequel but I like it the way it is.

I was hoping to see Boo again, not a stupid prequel, I think there was a much better way to do this.

Dan Scanlon to Direct Monsters University

ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Dan Scanlon will direct Monsters, Inc. prequel Monsters University. Kori Rae is producing the film.

Scanlon has worked as a story artist on Cars and Toy Story 3 and directed the Cars-related short, "Mater and the Ghostlight." Rae was a producer on "Mater's Tall Tales" and Up.
