BREAKING: Matt Bomer, the star of White Collar and Magic Mike, is set to play Montgomery Clift in a biopic of the Hollywood star. The film is being shopped for financing by Pier 3 Pictures’ Michael Din, Janine Giaime and Juri Henley-Cohn. Larry Moss will direct a script by Christopher Lovick and they are shooting for a 2014 start date. To hear about a zillion Deadline Hollywood commenters tell it, Bomer was the logical choice for Christian Grey in Fifty Shades Of Grey. But he’s sparked to play a true Hollywood icon in Clift. At his prime, Clift rivaled Marlon Brando as Hollywood’s biggest male star. A method actor who refused to put his private life on display, he graduated from stage roles to screen success in films that includes A Place In The Sun and From Here To Eternity. His matinee idol good looks were destroyed by a devastating car accident that left him with a broken nose and facial scars. Though he continued to make movies, the accident haunted him until his death, even though he received an Oscar nomination for one of his last performances in Judgment At Nuremberg.
Bomer, who most recently starred for Ryan Murphy alongside Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo in the screen adaptation of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart for HBO, has been knocking on the door for awhile. I recall him being Brett Ratner’s choice to play the Man Of Steel when Warner Bros tried to put together its Superman movie several years ago. Good to see him getting his due.

Sounds interesting. Clift is almost a forgotten actor these days. He did some great work but is rarely mentioned anymore.

Good choice, he does favor the guy. No one ever really mentions Clift amongst the big names of Hollywood's heyday because Brando and other names overshadowed him.

Ironically I know his story better through Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series where there's an identical story behind his creation.

Introduced in Batman: The Animated Series, the Matt Hagen version of Clayface has several aspects of Basil Karlo as well. In the episode "Feat of Clay" (written by veteran comic book writer Marv Wolfman), Matt Hagen was a past-his-prime actor disfigured in a horrible car accident. While recovering in a burn clinic, corrupt businessman Roland Daggett makes him a test subject for a compound called "Renuyu" that he promises will immediately restore his youthful good looks.

That's one of my favorite episode(s) of BTAS! I'm not super familiar with Clift actually. Movie should be interesting.

I'm sure they do but it's not like I hear it often when names like Bogart and Brando and what not are thrown around.
Perhaps. He was an amazing talent however. One of the greatest actors of all time imo.

They should introduce that story into this biopic. It would differentiate it from all other Hollywood biopics at least. Montgomery Cliff could become a test subject with the promise of his looks restored, but he turns into Clayface, or at least another monster since WB own him.

Matt bomer is such a natural talent. I was really impressed with him when he was in the normal heart.

I can't wait to see this
