Anyone else see this?

Pretty much a shoe in for an Oscar nod

It was pretty good. A lot of powerful scenes. I don't think it's great and it kinda just ends, but still pretty good and Im glad I saw it

Yeah it's been getting rave reviews. Definitely one of the best of the year. Not seen it yet though.

This was such a good film. All the actors were perfect for each "Age"/"Period" of his life. I hope this gets some love from the various upcoming award shows.

Looking forward to seeing it when it plays in my area.

Yeah I can't wait to watch this.

Finally saw it and I thought it was wonderful and heartbreaking. The cinematography was breathtaking. This deserved every rave review and award recognition that it has and will get.

I thought this film would be all but lost to me considering it played a few months back at my local indie theater, but I guess A24 put out a limited release before Oscar season, and I leapt at the chance to see it despite the fact that I really should've spent the time elsewhere.

Needless to say, this film was just tremendous. I saw a THR roundtable with directors, which Barry Jenkins participated in and he talked about the first film that really affected him was Wong Kar-wai's Chunking Express. At that point, everything about Moonlight basically clicked for me. It's basically Jenkins' love letter to the works of Wong Kar-wai.

It's impressionistic, moody and Jenkins really succeeds in sort of homaging Wong Kar-wai's ability to put as he says, interiority on screen. This movie is a feeling film, and it's fun to try and find all the Wong Kar-wai references if you're familiar with his works (I only know his major stuff so I didn't catch it all, but did manage to pick a few out)

Mahershala Ali is just mesmerizing in the film. What a year he's had.

I know people were all La La Land vs Moonlight, but now I'm strictly in the Moonlight category.

finally saw this and i was blown away it absolutely deserves best picture it was such a chilling tale of self discovery such a beautiful film - 9/10

also i must say the actor who played teenage Chiron absolutely deserved a nomination that section of the film had me in tears

Loved this myself.

The only thing I could add to the praise is that I think André Holland was the real standout of the film. Mahershala was great but there's so much warmth, longing and even pain in his segment all that is conveyed in a single look.

I don't understand what ali did acting wise that so great. His character was a decent man and had layers, but i can't figure out what was award winning about ali. And i love him btw

Personally I was the most impressed by Trevante Rhodes acting wise. His little mannerisms said a lot about who his character was.

If that role was given to anyone else, someone more bombastic, you would lose so much of the nuance. It's a very understated performance, and the one (of the man) performances that really stick out, despite being on the screen for..10 minutes?
