This is an X-Men (Marvel Comics) fan-fic about the two mutant characters Morph (a man who can shape-shift!) and Cyclops (a man who can shoot lasers with his eyes!) involved in a sovereignty/research controversy about a special Venus mineral which can do things perhaps too 'complex' for minds on Earth(!).

This democracy-themed vignette was inspired by the film The Fifth Element.

Cheers (thanks for reading),

====

"Morph and Cyclops were on Venus on a special assignment created by their mentor Professor X (at the Institute for the Gifted Mutants of Earth!). Morph/Cyclops considered the wisdom of this exciting mission, which involved the gathering of a rare mineral on Venus supposedly able to afford anyone who touched it with the superhuman ability to create instantaneous heat(!), since the possession of such a potent mineral might mean terrorism if it fell into the wrong hands. Nevertheless, Professor X wanted to obtain this 'super-mineral' before it fell into the hands of a villain...such as the calculating Magneto(!).

Morph and Cyclops prowled around Venus in search of this hot rock and finally came upon the glowing blue mineral near a hill on one of the far ends/poles of Venus(!). Morph/Cyclops picked up the blue rock and put it in their insulated bag and hopped back onto their spaceship and flew back to Earth. When they returned to the Institute and handed the bag with the rock in it to Professor X, their mentor congratulated and thanked them. Morph and Cyclops then decided to take a vacation to the island of Fiji for some R&R.

Morph and Cyclops were no strangers to 'extra-human powers.' Morph, after all, had the uncanny ability to instantaneously change body shape/composition so he could resemble the appearance/visage of anyone else, while Cyclops had a fitted laser-visor onto his mutated his which gave him the ability to shoot a high-powered laser. Morph and Cyclops were 'mutants' who were sheltered/guided by their mentor Professor X (himself a psychic!). Professor X adopted Morph/Cyclops and raised them at his 'Institute' so they'd defend America (democracy).

Morph and Cyclops were now enjoying their special vacation on Fiji and trying to forget about the 'philosophical complexity' of the special hot-rock Professor X had them procure from Venus(!). Morph/Cyclops wondered if the extraordinary mineral they gave to Professor X would be used for some beneficial/helpful scientific experiment, perhaps at NASA or the Salk Institute(!). The two mutant friends (and democracy-defenders) thought idealistically about what Professor X wanted to do with the special blue mineral from Venus!

Morph and Cyclops were stunned suddenly when they noticed the visage/silhouette of a strange hooded character approaching them while the two were fishing on a boat(!). The 'stranger' was seemingly walking on water, which is why Morph/Cyclops thought they were hallucinating the vision of this individual, but they realized he/she was real (since they both caught sight of the character!). The stranger approached their boat and introduced himself as Lucid, a 'bishop' from Venus(!).

LUCID: Do you know why I'm here?
MORPH: You seem to be a man with a purpose (from Venus)!
CYCLOPS: Is this relevant to the blue hot-rock we procured from your planet?

LUCID: This has everything to do with that 'hot-rock.'
MORPH: Are you displeased with us, Lucid?
CYCLOPS: Are you angry 'visitors' extracted the mineral from your planet?

LUCID: You two are mutants with 'extra-human powers.'
MORPH: Yes, I can shape-shift, and Cyclops can shoot lasers!
CYCLOPS: How did you know that, Lucid?

LUCID: I'm a telepath; you two are under the tutelage of Professor X!
MORPH: Yes, Lucid; Professor X is a psychic who cares for us.
CYCLOPS: He's our mentor and teaches us about the value of democracy!

LUCID: So Professor X thought it wise to get the hot-rock before an enemy did.
MORPH: Yes, he was worried his rival/nemesis Magneto would steal the mineral first!
CYCLOPS: He had us travel to your planet by spaceship and bring back the hot-rock.

LUCID: So now that mineral is at the Institute for the Gifted Mutants of Earth!
MORPH: Yes it is, and we believe wise scientists are studying how to use it spiritually.
CYCLOPS: We believe Professor X will ensure that democracy is defended.

LUCID: Professor X therefore believes he's a 'guardian' of the hot-rock.
MORPH: Yes, he does, and Cyclops and I have no reason to doubt it!
CYCLOPS: What do you want now, Lucid?

LUCID: I want you to know something special about that blue mineral from Venus.
MORPH: What's so special about it (besides its 'magical' ability to create instant heat!)?
CYCLOPS: Yes, Professor X will do all that is required to ensure its proper study!

LUCID: That hot-rock from Venus creates heat; but it also opens up a wormhole!
MORPH: A time-travel portal...
CYCLOPS: I thought wormholes were only hypothetical/theoretical.

LUCID: No, wormholes are real, and Professor X is not ready to handle such a matter.
MORPH: So why are you telling us, Lucid?
CYCLOPS: Yes, why don't you just go to the Institute and tell the Professor yourself?

LUCID: I want you two to steal the rock from the Institute and return it to Venus!
MORPH: Why should we do that?
CYCLOPS: Shouldn't you confer with the Professor first, Lucid?

LUCID: No; your planet can't handle that mineral; you must keep our conversation secret!
MORPH: Alright; we'll do as you command, since you know more about that hot-rock.
CYCLOPS: We apologize for any sovereignty-violation we committed...

LUCID: I'll make sure Magneto doesn't get hold of that hot-rock on Venus, alright?
MORPH: That sounds comforting...
CYCLOPS: We'll do as you suggested!

LUCID: Just tell your Professor that the hot-rock simply vanished.
MORPH: Don't worry; we'll 'cook up' some believable lies!
CYCLOPS: We don't want humans/Magneto (or Professor X!) to open up wormholes!

LUCID: Right; opening up wormholes with a hot-rock will release 'stargate power.'
MORPH: What the hell is stargate power, Lucid?
CYCLOPS: Does it refer to some 'timeless/endless' form of devastation?

LUCID: Yes, Cyclops; stargate power refers to the destruction of space-time!
MORPH: Alright; we'll do as you said to save Earth, the Professor, and our Institute.
CYCLOPS: Thanks for pardoning us with this task, Lucid.

LUCID: Fear not; you two are 'worthy' angels of Professor X.
MORPH: God bless the Earth!
CYCLOPS: And Professor X...

Morph and Cyclops did as Lucid commanded and stole the hot-rock from the Institute and hopped back onto their spaceship and returned the mineral to Lucid on Venus. When they returned to Earth, they told Professor X that the mineral simply vanished, and Professor X had them interrogate Magneto to see if he stole it(!). Over time, the entire controversy subsided, and Professor X was comforted in the knowledge that the special mineral from Venus would never fall into the hands of someone who wanted to use it for death."

Chapter 2: 'Chaos Math'

This chapter finds Morph/Cyclops 'wrestling' with the complex study of chaos (nonlinear) intelligence as they encounter an abominable mad scientist named Dr. Octopus who challenges them to ponder if humanity is really equipped to handle modern imagination(!).

====

As Cyclops and Morph learned more and more about an exciting new field of academics called Chaos Theory (under the guidance of Professor X!), they began questioning the nature of 'systems control' in modern civilization (e.g., population explosion, media overstimulation, manmade weather, globalization uncertainty, etc.). Professor X wanted Cyclops and Morph to travel to Stanford University and attend the celebrated lectures of Dr. Otto Octavius who was teaching students about mass hypnosis(!). Cyclops/Morph took up this 'intellectual endeavor' and hopped into their private jet.

DR.OCTAVIUS: What's so fascinating about chaos theory is that it urges us to explore connections between systems behaviors (e.g., production distribution) and evolution (e.g., processing development), which is why I offer these exciting lectures here at Stanford (attended incidentally today by Professor X's two 'prodigy mutants' Morph and Cyclops!) about the 'nature' of advanced intelligence.

The lectures on Chaos Theory and media-related overstimulation/hypnosis and population profundity given by Dr. Octavius fascinated Cyclops and Morph(!). They told Professor X, "Dr. Octavius is revolutionizing the way we think of 'organized intelligence' on Earth, professor!" Cyclops/Morph wanted to apply chaos theory understandings to evaluations of traffic governance (e.g., immigration statistics).

However, things took a turn for the worse(!). Dr. Octavius was working on a device for labor-simplifying mechanical 'tentacles' fitted/attached to parts-movers in factories that would represent 'controlled multitasking' in this otherwise (as Octavius termed it!) 'evil time of technology-schizophrenia.' Dr. Octavius was working (alone) in his lab late at night and experimented with fitting the mechanized tentacles onto his own body when the computerized system went haywire, making the mechanical tentacles attached to Octavius completely irremovable(!).

DOCTOR OCTOPUS: My unfortunate 'accident' has turned me (Dr. Otto Octavius) into a mecha-octopus abomination simply because I was over-zealously investing in body/labor control, which is why I am now 'Doctor Octopus' --- a rather 'mad scientist' who wishes to use these attached mechanical tentacles to create general traffic mayhem in New York City (so everyone can fully appreciate why modern civilization is a 'thing' of maddening ambition!).

Professor X saw Doctor Octopus's deranged outcry on CNN and commanded Cyclops/Morph to go to NYC and destroy the mad scientist and his abominable agenda(!). When Cyclops and Morph arrived in Times Square (NYC), they found Octopus using his mecha-tentacles to hurl cars at buildings! Cyclops fired his lasers at Octopus's eerie tentacles, while Morph shape-shifted into a giant 'spider-man' to create an arresting cobweb/net that would nestle/trap Octopus. If Cyclops/Morph lost this battle in Times Square, the Chaos Theory teachers/students at Stanford and elsewhere would declare modernism too 'indulgent' to theosophically admire.

TO BE CONTINUED...

Chapter 3: ISIS Deconstruction*

Sorry folks, but I felt the patriotic need to write a chapter about our X-Men (Marvel Comics) mutants Morph and Cyclops attempting to deconstruct the fundamentalist-Islamic terrorist group ISIS in the Middle East (Syria), since it's so close to the 4th of July(!). After all, President Trump negotiating recently with nuclear Iran has everyone talking about creative geopolitical thinking as we approach the third decade of the new millennium...and I didn't want to feel apathetic/unconcerned.

What sets apart the mutant X-Men (Marvel Comics) is their involvement in human politics, and I wanted to contribute something nifty to 'anti-terrorism comics.' This would surely impress Professor X!

:ali:

====

Soon, it dawned on Professor X that he'd have to send Morph/Cyclops on a mission to infiltrate a secret ISIS terrorist station in a fundamentalist-Islamic section of Syria so nuclear-disarmament talks would proceed between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea with adequate assurances about geopolitical security. Morph/Cyclops wondered if they should intervene in human affairs/politics, but Professor X explained that intervention would bring political confidence. Morph/Cyclops prepared to use their mutant powers to tackle very radical/rogue terrorists.

MORPH: I worry this mission is too crazy...
CYCLOPS: President Trump needs the radical terrorists controlled!
MORPH: Should we intervene in human affairs/politics?
CYCLOPS: These terrorists plan to attack Tel Aviv.
MORPH: I guess this will be good for mutant-diplomacy.

Morph and Cyclops carefully infiltrated Syria and uncovered the hidden ISIS station housing about 20 rogue/radical terrorists. Professor X was informed by the NSA (National Security Agency) that these ISIS terrorists sought to bomb a target in Tel Aviv while President Trump was meeting with North Korea's leader about nuclear-disarmament. Morph/Cyclops agreed that this mutant attack on ISIS would reveal to the civilized world that Professor X's gifted/superhuman mutants cared about global security.

MORPH: We'll just go in and execute these radicals, eh?
CYCLOPS: To defend democracy, we must support militancy.
MORPH: What happened to the notion of mutant peace?
CYCLOPS: There's a modern need to endorse geopolitical strength.
MORPH: What if protesters claim we mutants are too violent?
CYCLOPS: Creating nuclear-disarmament security will clear our names!

Since many humans wondered if the superhuman mutants were too dangerous or uncontrollable, Professor X wanted to send Morph/Cyclops on a special anti-terrorism mission that would reveal to everyone that his mutants would support any patriotic cause designed to promote nuclear-disarmament. Morph/Cyclops entered the ISIS station in Syria and used their shape-shifting and laser-vision powers to confound and execute the deadly terrorists. They then informed Professor X of their success(!).

MORPH: Well, we've executed terrorists for the U.S. government.
CYCLOPS: We had to use our superpowers to create peace!
MORPH: Normal soldiers couldn't have infiltrated that terrorist-station.
CYCLOPS: I only hope terrorists don't retaliate now...
MORPH: I worried that mutant-heroism would spark biochemical revenge!
CYCLOPS: Yes, news of mutants helping America can seem 'biased.'
MORPH: Biochemical warfare/terrorism is the emerged paranoia!
CYCLOPS: Professor X wanted the world to believe in mutant-heroism.
MORPH: Maybe 'extra-human diplomacy' is the signature of modernism.

Addendum: The Rejected Recruit

This final addition to this story-arc/thread finds Cyclops and Morph engaging with a troubled equestrian named Ethan who seeks to join the X-Men to apply his telepathic powers but then transforms into an abominable flesh-avenger named Carnage after he's rejected by Professor X who simply can't afford a new recruit! This compels Cyclops/Morph to contemplate the true nature of teamwork...and consciousness(!).

====

Cyclops and Morph were invited to a weekend ranch trip at the estate of a wealthy Wall Street baron named Roger Hornsby. Professor X was a friend of Hornsby and was given a special invitation by Hornsby to visit his ranch in the summertime and bring the professor's two mutant pupils, Cyclops/Morph. Professor X had Cyclops and Morph pack their things, and the trio went to Hornsby's amazing ranch in July! When they got there and were welcomed by Hornsby and settled into their rooms on the property, Cyclops and Morph were escorted to the equestrian section of the large ranch, while Professor X enjoyed tea and croissants at the main house with Hornsby himself! While Cyclops/Morph were being shown the equestrian horses for riding on the Hornsby property, they were introduced to the equestrian-horse trainer, a 'whisperer' named Ethan Rai (a handsome Asian-American man of about 35 years of-age who wore glasses and exhibited a very cool demeanor!).

IMG_0193.JPG

Ethan showed Cyclops/Morph his various pencil-sketches/drawings of equestrians on horseback on the Hornsby property. Ethan then revealed to Cyclops and Morph that ever since he was a child, he exhibited telepathic qualities/gifts and was now wondering if he could serve/join Professor X's school of gifted superhuman mutants ('X-Men'). Ethan told Cyclops/Morph he was a devout Catholic and would carry to the Professor's school/team a social love of human virtues! Cyclops/Morph explained that the Professor's X-Men were not just gifted but also obligated to carry out dangerous missions to protect American democracy and therefore could not simply and liberally recruit just anyone who possessed unusual 'gifts' (such as psychic-consciousness). Ethan lamented that since he was an 'average' young and relatively handsome horse-whispering equestrian on Hornsby's lavish ranch, numerous female guests/visitors would find their way into Ethan's bedroom and seek him as a temporary/vacation 'love-date.' Ethan wanted a more 'serious' life, one geared towards more meaningful patriotism and was therefore eager to apply his telepathy to assist the X-Men on missions. Cyclops/Morph stared at Ethan's equestrian drawings and pondered how they could help the handsome ranch-hand!

IMG_0200.JPG

Cyclops/Morph decided to approach Professor X and tell him about Ethan's psychic powers and his earnest interest in joining the X-Men, after Ethan showed Cyclops and Morph his incredible ability to levitate and cast heavy wooden beams (from fences on Hornsby's ranch!). The Professor empathized with Ethan's desperation and desire to serve humanity as something more than just a 'private telepath' and baron-ranch 'love-servant' to female visitors. However, Professor X insisted that his school/team of gifted mutants was currently full and could therefore not accept any new applicants. Cyclops/Morph broke the bad news to a dismayed Ethan who lashed out in fury. They then saw Ethan transform(!) right before their very eyes into a terrifying alien-like red colored muscular leviathan named Carnage! Cyclops and Morph readied into a fight-stance to engage this rageful red menace named Carnage.

IMG_0087.JPG

CARNAGE: You refused to accept me, and now I'll destroy you!
CYCLOPS: You're an abomination who uses power to create trouble.
MORPH: Even if you're not joining the X-Men let Professor X help you.

CARNAGE: I don't want help...I wanted to see if the Professor would tutor me.
CYCLOPS: You've used telekinetic-power to turn yourself into a man-dragon!
MORPH: I know shape-shifting but you Ethan ('Carnage') are a 'devil.'

CARNAGE: The secret to telepathy is flesh, not patience...
CYCLOPS: If you had real patience, you'd use your power to bless.
MORPH: We'll have to corral you if you do not subside, Carnage!

CARNAGE: Convince me of peace, and I'll simply disappear!
CYCLOPS: You resented being a ranch 'love-slave' but you can be hermitic.
MORPH: Yes; retreat into the forest and meditate on the power of isolation!

CARNAGE: Very well...I'll become a forest-hermit to avoid social trouble; thanks.
CYCLOPS: Be well; may you find in private meditation what you couldn't in society.
MORPH: Perhaps someday there'll be a real social place for all troubled souls.

Professor X and his gifted mutants never heard from Ethan/Carnage again, but the Professor advised they should remain vigilant, in the off-chance that the bizarre Carnage resurfaces out of the forest (in which he simply disappeared) only to create more trouble for humanity. Cyclops/Morph wondered how they might've benefited from the powerful Carnage's strange consciousness. What was the secret to power-concentration?

The Silver-Saint

Since I'm really pleased with the aesthetic feel of this entire thread, I really felt the overwhelming need/urge to create just one more section (this is the final one, I absolutely promise!) about the X-Men daydreaming/dreaming about passing on the mantle of power to the future/next generation(!). This final section was inspired by the film X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Thanks for reading,

====

"Cyclops had a strange dream one night. He dreamt he was given the special opportunity to endow or pass on the 'sword of valor' which he had used while defending democracy in America under the tutelage/guidance of Professor X(!) onto a young 'prodigy' who would become the new 'X-Men captain of courage.' Cyclops realized he was having this 'inheritance dream' after feeling 'guilty' about having to reject the desire of the unfortunate/tragic Ethan Rai who desperately but unsuccessfully wanted to join the X-Men team! Cyclops wondered who would receive this 'sword of valor' from him and don the mantle of the next X-Men captain(!)."

cyc1.jpg

"In this unusual dream, Cyclops was wandering around an ancient land(!) of great mysticism as a 'wandering warrior' wearing a hood and resembling a mercenary! Cyclops was completely clandestine in this strange but intriguing/inspiring dream-sequence. Cyclops wandered around the land searching for a prophetic 'blessed child' who would grow up to take up the mantle of X-Men captain in the future(!). Cyclops wandered around for some time and realized he had become a 'diplomat' of power and magic responsibility."

cyc2.jpg

"Finally, Cyclops found the prophetic man-child who'd take the inherited sword of valor. This man-child was a cute and affable Scottish boy named Brendan who wore a colorful kilt and authentic Scottish coats and hats(!). Brendan was outspoken, well-tempered, virtue-pensive, idealistic, and quite brave in demeanor, even as a small boy. Cyclops decided this Scottish 'prodigy' was the real man-child who would inherit the sword of valor and someday be the captain of the mighty X-Men and carry on the democracy-defending legacy espoused by Professor X. Brendan was the right choice!"

cyc6.jpg

"While still dreaming, Cyclops envisioned Brendan growing up to become a very mighty and pronounced sword-wielding magical warrior with incredible gifts of telekinesis, shape-shifting, and energy-harnessing. Brendan gave himself the warrior-alias 'Silver-Saint' and resembled something like an immortal knight of gifts and mysticism. In this dream Cyclops was having, Silver-Saint had become a rather mighty sword-bearing messenger and warrior who chose to defend democratic values even in a land beset by the problems of corruption, piracy, anarchy, demon-worship, terrorism, and even arson."

cyc4.jpg

"Silver-Saint found an invaluable female ally in an idealistic and beautiful female warrior-princess named Kitana George who carried special emerald-rings which glowed with her telepathic powers and afforded her the ability to persuade and assuage her enemies/adversaries. Kitana would accompany Brendan (Silver-Saint) on his various missions, reminding him of the importance of forsaking personal gain for the benefit and wellness of the Earth itself. Cyclops knew Brendan had found an ideal wife and companion for his eventually very challenging missions involving the defense of civilization virtues (i.e., democracy)."

cyc5.jpg

"Still dreaming, Cyclops envisioned that Brendan (Silver-Saint) discovered a powerful and mystical portal of power and mystery called the Circle Gate (CG). The CG enabled anyone who 'possessed' it with the ability to deform time and space. It fell into the wrong hands, unfortunately, and Brendan (Silver-Saint) had to take it back and place it into the hands of someone more wise(!). The CG was taken by an evil warlord named Erol who intended to use it to create a terrible dominion of anarchy and terror. Cyclops saw that Silver-Saint and his wife/companion Kitana had the capability of delivering the powerful CG into the right hands!"

cyc7.jpg

"Erol's mistress, the evil and diabolical Malicia was a woman of great sorcery and psychic powers which she used to basically destroy the morality of anyone who dared defy her lord (Erol!). Malicia was the diametric opposite of Kitana, and and she wanted to use telepathy to promote fascism rather than democracy. Could Silver-Saint, Cyclops' chosen warrior-child and inheritor of the sword of valor usurp Erol and the wicked Malicia (with the help of Kitana)? Would Silver-Saint ensure that CG never again fell into the wrong hands, the hands of those seeking to use power to promote violence --- e.g., Malicia?"

cyc8.png

"Cyclops awoke from his strange dream in a cold sweat. He realized that his dream symbolized his overall curiosity about the obligation to use and pass down power wisely(!). He told his mentor Professor X about this dream, and the Professor gave Cyclops a mathematical diagram of algebraic values arrayed in a geometric-ratio representative segmented triangle(!) and told his pupil (Cyclops!) to consider why/how this 'mathematical triangle' symbolized the imagination of balance and control. Cyclops realized that his dream about Silver-Saint represented his interest in harnessing power through the channels of wisdom, and he thanked Professor X for the illuminating mathematical-triangle diagram!"

cyc9.gif

CYCLOPS: My dream was very inspiring...
MORPH: Professor X seemed to be impressed!
CYCLOPS: I wonder if I will indeed have to find an 'inheritor' child.
MORPH: Someone will have to take up the mantle of X-Men captain someday!
CYCLOPS: Perhaps my dream about Silver-Saint was a pleasant premonition!
MORPH: Too bad the unfortunate/tragic Ethan Rai did not make the grade...
CYCLOPS: I'm sure we'll find the right candidate for an actual X-Men inheritance.
MORPH: If we do, he'll have to exhibit a social interest in democracy.
CYCLOPS: That's just what Professor X would want.
MORPH: Let's toast to the certainty of teamwork(!).

The Darkness

Sorry, folks, I couldn't resist returning to this comic book forum, one of my favorites (Superhero Hype!) to add one more chapter about Morph/Cyclops learning about 'advanced truths' with this last addendum about two of the most unusual villains/anti-heroes Marvel Comics and DC Comics have ever created in their textured (and graphic!) histories --- Dark Phoenix and Black Manta. So this is a Marvel-DC comics 'crossover' (for fans!).

But I promise, this time, this addendum really is my 'final gun.'

Thanks for reading (signing off),

====

"Morph and Cyclops had to deal with a new and very real presence of darkness on Earth which came in the form of two mutant nemeses, both of whom despised the democratic principles espoused by Professor X(!). The first evil nemesis was the diabolical and energized hellraising woman known as the Dark Phoenix. Transformed by nuclear radiation poisoning, Dark Phoenix vowed vengeance against Earth for her terrible condition which rendered her blind but with a newfound superhuman sense of sound-and-energy based sight and the ability to transmit and shoot incredibly dangerous rays of radiation energy. Dark Phoenix was, as her name sort of implied, a messenger of pure darkness and hell. Morph and Cyclops were sent by Professor X to deal with Dark Phoenix who was currently creating wildfires in the forests of California(!)."

darkness2.jpg

"The other evil mutant nemesis on Earth was the eerie Black Manta, a mechanized abomination. Once a proud Navy soldier, Thomas Hewitt, Black Manta was disfigured during a submarine explosion while on board the American underwater vessel. He went mad and retreated into his underground lab where he fashioned himself a mechanical body-suit capable of delivering electric shocks. He also made himself a metal helmet with red glowing eyes for infrared vision for night-fighting(!). Black Manta's body-suit enabled him to swim at very high speeds (thanks to nitro-thrusters fitted onto his metal boots!) underwater, and he schemed to go deep in the Pacific Ocean and emerge on the banks of the beaches of southern California where he could use electric shocks to devastate the West Coast science center, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies(!). Black Manta was, like Dark Phoenix, a force of hell. Morph/Cyclops would have to stop Dark Phoenix in northern California and Black Manta in southern California, before the terror proved too much!"

darkness4.jpg

"You see, the deranged 'vision' of Dark Phoenix and Black Manta was to completely subvert the democratic/Utopian daydreams of the idealistic Professor X(!). Professor X envisioned a future world in which mutants with gifts would help normal humans by living alongside them and building giant and prosperous and eco-friendly 'crystal-cities' that would touch the sky but not pierce it! However, Dark Phoenix and Black Manta wanted to use methods of terrorism to remind mankind on Earth that for every dose of wondrous magic and democracy, there was the real 'presence' of hell and the urge to create power through fascism, terror, and piracy. The world Dark Phoenix and Black Manta envisioned was one of hell and bloodlust, a world rule by instincts rather than emotion(!). Morph/Cyclops disarmed Dark Phoenix in northern California by confusing the hellraising woman with shape-shifting (Morph's specialty!) and then shooting laser 'cages' all around her with eye-beams (Cyclops' specialty!). Morph/Cyclops hauled off the exhausted Dark Phoenix to Professor X's underground incarceration super-steel center before heading to southern California where they outwitted the sinister Black Manta by stopping his electric-shock terrorism at the Salk Institute by overcoming him with lasers and shape-shifting method elusiveness. They carried Black Manta off to Professor X's incarceration center as well. Professor X was relieved and began daydreaming about his 'crystal city' once more."

darkness6.jpg

MORPH: Dark Phoenix and Black Manta are a handful...
CYCLOPS: Professor X is relieved they're in custody now!
MORPH: They shall be treated as criminally-insane mutants...
CYCLOPS: Professor X will plan what to tell American leaders!
MORPH: I wonder what these evildoers' real motivations/intentions were.
CYCLOPS: I believe Dark Phoenix wanted to 'punish' humanity for her deformity.
MORPH: I personally think Black Manta was a 'self-proclaimed' prophet...
CYCLOPS: Dark Phoenix espoused a brand of darkness geared towards anarchy.
MORPH: Black Manta was endorsing a terrorism method akin to savagery.
CYCLOPS: I wonder what all these revelations we've had imply for the 'Stargate.'
MORPH: We do know this, my friend --- Professor X always thinks best of the future!
CYCLOPS: Do you think Dark Phoenix is truly an 'evil woman' or something?
MORPH: She's certainly in no condition currently to be an 'angel of mercy.'
CYCLOPS: I wonder if Black Manta (Thomas Hewitt) would've been a 'normal soldier.'
MORPH: If Hewitt wasn't disfigured in that Navy-sub explosion, he'd be more 'chipper.'
CYCLOPS: Well, Professor X knows how to 'market' the consciousness of mutants!
MORPH: Yeah, he knows what to tell the American President regarding 'civics chaos.'
CYCLOPS: He also knows what to tell the American people about 'futuristic philosophy.'
MORPH: Let's hope all these revelations we've had enhance our love of democracy.
CYCLOPS: Professor X will always engender in us a good sense of empathy...
