Horror Welcome to Derry - HBO Max Developing IT Prequel Series

Since in this last episode we learned that It experiences time all at once, and it’s been established in the book and the film that Dick Hallorann can see the future, it would be kind of fun if directors and writers played around with our knowledge of the film in a meta way by showing us how events in the future could happen, and a lot of those visions he gets are how things play out in the book. So, in the Overlook series, we get both the book version while also adhering to what was established in the film.

It would also be a fun way mess with our expectations of whether those future events with Jack, Wendy amd Danny Torrence will occur how they do in the book or in the film, just to keep us on our toes. Maybe even bring Mike Flanagan back and have him be a producer and direct an episode or two to tie it all together as a bonus.

That would be great, he was supposed to do the Hallorann prequel film before it got cancelled due to Doctor Sleep not doing well at the box office.

That really bummed me out.

I was wondering if any of his ideas made it into this show, so I did a little googling and found this:

The singing voice of Aladdin going on to be co-showrunner and a writer on an IT show is dementedly hilarious.

He’s also the showrunner for the Crystal Lake show. Better get a musical number for that! :o :funny:

We'll probably see Jason as a child talking in it, might as well give him a song too. :o

Chris Chalk said he’s already pitched a spin-off.

Chalk himself is at least intrigued by the idea of returning to the world of Derry, as he told TV Insider of the time travel twist that could bring him back into the fold, “I’ve pitched it! I have also said, ‘Hey, Dick can kind of do anything. Now that he’s connected to the universe, there’s no need to disconnect him.'”

Love me some "Blood from the nose down" Pennywise.

I haven't seen the finale yet, so I skipped (for now) the last pages and perhaps there are elements missing from my thinking, but I have a question: if there are to be more seasons, can Pennywise really reappear with his iconic clown look?

I mean, if we fast forward twenty years into the future, we have the It films, and if we go back a few decades, not only have we already been told – more or less – what happened through a few flashbacks, but that's also when It apparently decided to take on this particular form...

So... did they paint themselves into a corner here?

Personally, the first three episodes of the series showed me that I could do without this look if the creature's other appearances were visually creative. But I also understand that the image of the nightmarish clown is now a selling point, as the character's recent popularity has been built on it.

According to what I've heard online, Season 2 would take place in 1935 and Season 3 would take place in 1908.

Finn Wolfhard teased his return to IT.

Did you know that a photo of your character from IT would appear in the IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 finale?

I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021. Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, “You’re involved.” Yeah, I’m connected. I think there’s something else that will come up eventually that I’m excited for people to see.

Seems kinda vague. I feel like he's in on whatever they're cooking for Welcome to Derry since his picture was literally shown in the finale but I don't know how involved he would be in future seasons.

It'd be really odd if he reprised Richie as a twentysomething since he wouldn't encounter It again for years until he's adult Bill Hader. We don't need a retcon where It can suddenly time jump to random years.

I imagine it would be some sort of time travel shenanigans if Finn is involved. Or maybe playing an ancestor of his mother.

Yeah I didn't think of that. He could play Marge's dad when the show goes to 1935, or her grandpa in 1908. Something like that.

I’m on episode 3, but this show is amazing. And the intro is great too. Hill house was prob my favorite horror show but think this has already surpassed to be fair i don’t watch a lot of TV shows

Yeah, a new character/ancestor was my first thought, because the only way he’d be reprising Richie is if they went off-cycle, which the first season really gives us no indication is something that they would do.

Plus I think Finn looks different enough now compared to when he played Richie that it wouldn’t feel too jarring to play someone else.

I will say in the past few years the gloves have come off in horror on violence on children. I personally like it. There are no stakes higher and a villain scarier than one that hurts children. It’s not that I like seeing that but I like my fiction to mirror real life as much as possible and unfortunately children are hurt in the real world.

It'd actually be kinda funny if that happens and he plays the character totally serious, in contrast to how jokey Richie and Marge are.
