The article discusses the story line of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and how they are going to wipe the slate clean on the current generation of game consoles and move onto next generation systems after this game. We wont give away the story line just yet, because you should go out and buy the issue for those details, but you can say a winner will finally be decided once and for all.

Here is a quick run down of the features mentioned in the article:

* At least 60 playable characters, "all the characters from Mortal Kombat fighting history". But they do mention that Motaro may not make the cut.
* Character select screen is so large that it has to rotate to reveal them all.
* Create a Kombatant system for customizable characters.
* The Fatalitiy system will be "reinvented," but no elaboration on that yet.
* Air Combo system implemented that allows string combos in mid-air.
* Throws can now be executed so that you toss the opponent where you want to. This helps with stage deathtraps, making them much more of a threat than before.
* Konquest mode is now based off of the Shaolin Monks engine. This will allow the game to much more dynamic and expansive.
* Game to be released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in October 2006.

Pitty only one of them is any good :o

That's an awful lot of characters.

Now if only the actual fighting didn't feel so wooden. They need to look at Virtua Fighter, Tekekn and Dead or Alive and take their cue from the fluidity of motion those games have. Mortal Kombat has always been so rigid.

Oh, man. Am I gonna have to break the MK Drakatars out?

As long as they don't manage to make the fighting engine fluid and get rid of the dial-a-combo system I won't be impressed by the number.

Meh, looks pretty average. Is that ZOMBIE Liu Kang in the group shot?

I'm not as big of a MK fan as I used to be, but I have to say since Deadly Alliance the character designs have greatly improved. For example, that new Rain is pretty damn cool.

I hope they are totally reworking the combo system. It was pretty broken in Deadly Alliance and the only thing they did to try and fix it were those combo breakers, which I thought was kind of lazy. I also hope they bug test that Konquest mode if they are using the Shaolin Monks engine. I was pleased with Shaolin Monks on X-box, but it is the most glitch filled game I have EVER played. I came across a glitch or bug that would force me to restart the game almost every hour into the game.

Are you kidding? Deception's combat was miles ahead of Tekken or Dead or Alive. The three style mechanic was very nice in DA, but they got things just right in Deception.

VF4 and Soul Caliber 3 are the only games surpassing it's fighting system.

Mortal Kombat is a very average fighting game...I'll still play it though.

I bet there's at least 5 clones. There's no way you can make complete move lists for 60 characters.

Even if there is, i'm cool with it...it's all about the characters for me

Soooo, Reptile isn't the Lizard King or whatever his name is anymore?

That was shown in one or two endings, but most of the endings don't carry on to the next games story...they usually choose one characters ending and make it official

Some thoughts:

1) 60 characters really aren't necessary. I mean really, who gives a damn about all that stupid chaos/order realm **** from Deception? Who cares Mavado? Who cares about Stryker? There are a lot of characters they could leave out. I would much rather have one uber good Mortal Kombat game with a lot of characters (30-40 would suffice)...that they focus on giving really good stories too as opposed to just throwing in as many as possible for the hell of it.

2) Story wise, who is the villian? I assume it's going to be the 'higher power' that was talked about in Liu Kang's Deception ending. The one who was controling Zombie-Kang. The one who is more powerful than the Dragon King. (I still hope it's Shinnok, for someone who was a god, Shinnok was very underwhelming. I am hoping everything with Quan Chi betraying him and Onaga's ressurection was all part of his higher plan).

3) Curious that Blaze is so prominent in the picture, could he be the 'higher power'?

4) Why use Zombie-Kang in the picture? Does this mean Liu Kang is going to remain a zombie? I hope not, I want normal Liu Kang back for the 'final battle'.

Sweeeeeet! Pretty cool that Rain's back. To bad that we can't see if Scorpion looks any different. Major, MAJOR plus the Sub-Zero has his Ninja suit back. It's also pretty funny that Reeko is dressed like Kahn.

I hope they have classic costumes

And is it me or does Striker look like Thomas Haden Church?
