I would say that it was clearly the tandem 2001-planet of the apes. The science fiction of the 50s and mid 60s were serie B movies. They create a new generation of science ficction movies. Surely, star wars was very important, as alien or blade runner or close encounters in the third kind. But 2001 started it. Even people like Spielberg, Lucas or Cameron regonigzed it. Are you agree with this opinion or think in a different way?

Post your opinon with freedom, only what you think, not what the people want to read.

Also, i think that 2001 was clearly the father of the modern science fiction era. Maybe some people not liked it, some people liked star wars more, but 2001 did it first.

I think Alien is one of the fathers of very gritty science fiction at least.

Come On guys, 2001 is definitely the best film on that list, but Star Wars set the tone for sc-fi films to this day.

I think that when star wars came along, the tone was marked by 2001 and planet of the apes.

And what is more, star wars have a lot more references from the classics from the 50s and mid 60s and from the tv serials like buck rogers and flash gordon than from 2001 or planet of the apes

I accidently voted for Alien :( my vote actually goes to Blade Runner

Star Wars. It'd be a dead genre without it.

I wouldnt go that far :D

Im going to vote for alien.. its more my style and made a new fork in the road for scifi.

2001: A Space Odyssey...

I don't know about that. If you watch the Bonus Disc of the Original trilogy that came out on DVD a little while back, you will see that Star Wars did, for the most part, restart the science fiction craze.

Maybe for the general public, star wars re-start the science fiction craze, but 2001 and planet of the apes did it before, but they arent so knowed for the general public and star wars created a lot more of modern mithos and inonic characters. I mean, HAL 9000 and taylor from planet of the apes were great characters, but not can be compared with dart vader or luke skywalker or han solo or the other star wars characters.

Star wars jump started the Box-office when it was released.
Plus it set the bar for what a Sci-Fi film should be.

War of the Worlds (the original) ?

V the Mini-series ?

maybe ?

Blade Runner for me, although I have yet to see 2001.

I think Star Wars, Alien and Blade Runner had the most significance.

Wtf? Did everyone take the blue pill?

The answer is The Matrix.

We need a new bar then lol :D

I am of the persuasion that star wars isnt anything special. No offense. Superman for that style i find much better.
