Most profitable movies of 2014

Welcome to Accounting 101.

I wouldn't put too much stock into those numbers. Considering that they are researched guesses, and not from actual financial reports, they may not be telling the whole truth.

Probably not. But the process is sound. And it's important to know how they make decisions.

That's a pretty telling list, and I think it shows they're not making as much profit as you think. A $250 million profit for Transformers is only the budget for the next one they're going to make.

I think American Sniper is the real winner here. That budget couldn't have been much at all, and the profit is probably way more than they're revealing. WB had one of their biggest successes ever.

I've seen some mention that the Sony e-mails indicate that ASM wasn't even profitable. So I'm not entirely sure how well to take the list.

I think no merchandising is what killed it. Same with X-Men.

This is where Disney always wins, in my opinion. I think there was some statistic that Pixar's Cars was not as successful as the toys, and that's basically why Cars 2 was even made. As a corporation, they barely even need to give two ****s about their movies. And that's honestly why Episode VII is being made. There will be so many toothbrushes, band-aids, and beach towels, there might as well just be a Star Wars store.

It let's you know how valuable an actor, director, producer, or franchise is. I has to make money. Just like the big mac for mcdonalds.
