His Producing history is just as interesting in my opinion. He has Produced such classics as The Goonies and the Back to the Future trilogy.

Right now he's still making a load of money with Transformers, next film is coming out and is sure to make a billion. However, it seems like his time as a Blockbuster film Director may be coming to an end, though he has certainly inspired some "Successor" in the likes of:

-J.J.Abrams
-Michael Bay
-Christopher Nolan
-M.Night Shyamalan (With Signs's release he being hailed as the next Steven Spielberg by some magazines)

Remind me if i'm missing any other name when it comes to mainstream Blockbuster Directors who were clearly inspired by Spielberg.

Jurassic Park. When I was a kid this was the movie I would watch all the time.

Choosing a favourite Spielberg film is a bit like choosing a favourite Beatles song.

I came here to post the exact same thing

damn, is there any other director who has made so many classics?

Kubrick, David Fincher, Tarantino, James Cameron and a few others. Though besides Cameron, no other Director has really made as many mainstream classics for all ages as Spielberg, nor as many game changers.

In my opinion, Spielberg has made the greatest movies of all time. Just look at all the classics on that list. No other director has so many downright classic films under their belt.

You didn't spell Schindler's List right! :cmad:

This is like choosing a favorite child. It's down to Raiders, Crusade, or JP for me. If I absolutely HAD to pick just one, it'd be one of those three. If I had to do an honorable mention, it'd be about the rest of the damn list. Really speaks to Spielberg's pedigree that it's such a difficult choice.

This thread just made me realize how many Spielberg movies I haven't seen yet.

Hmmmm i don't think i could put them in order but...

Jaws
ET
Raiders
Schindler's List
Hook
Munich
Minority Report
Jurassic Park

Man, Spielberg really is a huge reason i love films.

E.T.
Empire of the Sun
The Color Purple
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Jaws

Hook
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Jurassic Park

Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa, Hawks, Ford, Bergman, and Wilder, among others, say hello. But, Spielberg absolutely belongs in that pantheon.

Yeah, i think the only diference and reason some here are thinking Spielberg's the only Director to have ever done this many classics is because he has made a larger number of classics for all ages.

That and because he's sustained into the present. He and Scorsese are the biggest directors from the 70s to present that have had consistent and modern success.

I'dd also say that it also has to do with Spielberg being more known into the mainstream than the others, with most of people posting around here having grown with his films.

No doubt. Spielberg is certainly THE mainstream Hollywood director of the last 50 years. He may have some contenders for critical acclaim (Scorsese mainly) and for box office (Cameron mainly), but not for the combination of the two.

Despite Spielberg making critically acclaimed dramas like Schindler's List, and Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park will always be my favorite.

While his best years are probably behind him, and i doubt he will make as inspiring films as Jaws, Close Encounter, E.T, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan, he still has a very strong modern filmography, Lincoln and Tintin were pretty good, even though they were nothing groundbreaking.

I heard he was the having financing problems for his next projects, which frankly is a shame, considering he has set most of the standarts that Hollywood still follows to this day.

I know this may sound odd, especially for his large roster of movies, but I love Catch Me If You Can.

I personally think Minority Report is the best of all of Dick's adaptations. Yes, that includes Blade Runner. It's my favorite science fiction film ever.

I prefer Blade Runner, but aside from that, I'd agree with you. Minority Report is brilliant, and definitely one of my favorite Spielberg films.
