Most Underrated Sci Fi movie, a recommendations thread!

Some of it, but I don't see how that effects the point of a stand alone movie? Or my comment.

Yes that was a bit off base.

But I think he meant to say in what way does it not grab you or make you think it was not a good show? Also what shows were out at that time that did it better or on par?

I hated Equilibrium when it came out, and I hate it even more in light of Ultraviolet. It's a pathetic rip off of Orwell, trying to cash in on The Matrix, pretending to be deep, and ultimately saying nothing. There is not a shred of originality, or even sincerity in that film. Just a bunch of armchair philosophy and easy answers wrapped in a black trench coat and gun-fu.

I don't get the Equilibrium hate.

The ultra slick fight scenes are just the icing on the cake. The real power comes from the message. The ultimate enforcer uses his training/conditioning to become the ultimate freedom fighter after he realizes what's more important than security and order. Our ability to freely think and feel.

perfect sci-fi movie for the times we live in.

The fact that you have 2 people here who are free to think and feel differently about a movie is the point of what Bale was fighting for in that movie.

yeah I guess

but I was referring to post-9-11 issues.

I didn't like Equilibrium because the story they chose had been done to death. "We get it, 1984 was great...can we get a new allegory for neo fascism".

Gattaca and Dark City are both very underrated!! I also enjoy this flick:
