This is kind of an odd pet peeve of mine, but I have a few friends who constantly get certain movie titles wrong, no matter how many times you correct them. Just curious if you run into this a lot too... what are some movies that people can never remember the names of?

Usually, the people I know either get the titles of two movies mixed up, or just call one movie the name of another one:

Bye, Bye Baby (Gone Baby Gone)

All the King's Men (The King's Speech)

The Last Exorcist (The Last Exorcism)

The Social Worker (The Social Network)

Paralegal (Paranormal Activity)

I sometimes get Return Of The Jedi & The Empire Strikes Back out of order.

Saving Ryan's Privates (Saving Private Ryan)

Superman (Superman: The Movie)

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (Star Wars)

The Lost World (The Lost World: Jurassic Park)

I always thought 2002's Infernal Affairs was called Internal Affairs.

When someone corrected me, I thought they where slamming the movie, I responded 'What, didn't you like it?'

Embarrassed the heck out of me.

Not a movie, but a tv show, my mum once reffered to Smallville as 'that show with Batman as a baby.' lol

Those who insist at pronouncing Caribbean as [kar-ee-be-an] instead of [karrib-ien]

TNT and other network call it that as well. Actually, I have never heard it said as [karrib-ien], as far as the movie is concerned. I may have missed it though. Tomatoe / tomAtoe.

Actually, my peeve is people who misquote movie lines.

I don't mind if people use the nickname for movie titles if it's easier to say... like X1, X2, X3, Transformers 1, Transformers 2, Pirates 1, Pirates 2 etc.

It's the ones with the same titles that gets confusing... Karate Kid, Clash of the Titans etc.

Do you live in Japan?

My family tends to nickname movies. Either because the title is a little long or it just sounds better.

Child's Play - Chuckie

The Crow - Crow

Resident Evil - Rez Eve

Big Trouble in Little China - Big Trouble

Don't Be a Menace to South Central while Drinking Your Juice in the Hood - Menace Juice

Paralegal (Paranormal Activity)

Do you mean "Paralegal Activity"?

Yea sometimes people shorten the title, like "Close Encounters", or just "ET"

well that one i can understand seeing as how the movie was originally just called STAR WARS, considering they weren't expecting it to become a franchise.

IP MAN gets usually called I-P-MAN, yes, the crazy internet cyber warrior :cwink:

I work in a store that sells DVDs and when I Am Legend came out my manager always, always said it as I'm A Legend. at first we thought he was just kinda messing about and knew he had it wrong... but even when there was promotional stuff in front of him, it was I'm A Legend. It wasn't a massive mistake or anything but it got kinda funny after a while..

Is abbreviation really "wrong"?

I don't think it is...
I often say The Twin Towers instead of the Two Towers when I speak of the second LOTR film... then I feel bad because I mentioned the Twin towers.

Also, as long as people know what movie you're talking about, who cares if you don't get the title exactly right?

You would be looked at funny if you pronounce it your way over here.
Well, the geographical place is pronounced [karrib-ean] Sea, and I have never understood why they changed that for the movies...

The Nightmare Before Christmas/A Nightmare Before Christmas

I think something is being put into the water wherever you live, cause going by the responses in this thread, this is not a major problem elsewhere in the world, certainly not to the extent where it should be someone's 'pet peeve'. As far as 'pet peeves' go, this is should be up there with , 'I hate it when people push shopping trolleys around in my kitchen.' or 'I hate it when the next door neighbour starts vacuming on top of my trampoline.'

Friday the 13th (Jason)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Krueger)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Ninja Turtles)
HULK (the Hulk or Incredible Hulk)(prior to the 2008 film)
