lol,french cheese.

I think personally that most animated films have aged well over time. Most of them are based on timeless stories and great visuals that still look amazing today,

If i need to be more specific I would say Aladdin,Sleeping Beauty,Lion King,Fantasia and a bunch of other movies.

"Besides the acting, direction, cinematography, writing and score the movie is perfect."

Please.

He's excluding extremely large aspects of the film to prove his nonexistent point.

Aspects that are key to maintaining a timeless feel.

Um, no idea what you're talking about, wasn't trying to make a particular point about Alien other than I thought it still held up today. And I happen to think all those aspects you mentioned are done really well in Alien too - IMO it's one of Ridley Scott's best-shot, best-directed, & best-scored films. The acting, directing, cinematography, writing, & score don't really "date" it that much for me - barely at all, even. The only major thing that takes me out of the film's "dating" (especially since it's set in the future) is all of the old-school command-line computer interfaces - which is something that was obviously changed for the better in Prometheus. (And even that point can be argued somewhat since Alien was set on an old space tanker and Prometheus on a state-of-the-art space ship.)

Wine would have been more appropriate, as an analogy.
Take it from a French.

Ah, but wine that has aged for too long turns to vinegar. Not so for cheese. But as wines is made of firmented grapes, and cheese from firmented milk, I suppose that's why they compliment each other so well. Take it from a trained chef.

Hey.

So what classic movies would you guys say have aged particularly well over the years?

It seems like people will always mention all of those instances of antoquated sci-fi or unintentional campiness, but what movies, despite their original release date, still hold up for today's modern and 3D-addled audiences?

For the more "modern classics" (if that even makes any sense), I'd say the original Star Wars Trilogy has aged incredibly well. Many of today's youngsters find it just as awe inspiring to watch it for the first time as I did when I was a kid.

I think Terminator & T2: Judgement Day have both aged very well.

Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 are all still very solid movies.

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy looks as amazing today as it did 12 years ago.

The Princess Bride, Willow, Conan The Barbarian (1982), Disney's The Three Musketeers have all aged incredibly well and are just as fun to watch today as they were 20 or 30 years ago.

John Carpenter's Halloween and Halloween 2 are as scary today as they were when they were first released. Same for John Carpenter's The Thing.

And speaking of scary movies, I feel the first three Friday The 13th films still hold up today. Sure, the clothes, music, etc, is all "dated". But the cinematography, directing, acting, writing, visual effects, they're all just as good today as they were back then (and far better than a lot of the crap that gets released today). The same can be said for the original Black Christmas. It's not exactly "timeless" in the sense that the clothes, cars, phones, etc, are all obviously from the 70's. But the writing, directing, acting, all make it a timeless horror film. Anyone who watches it for the first time today still gets creeped out by it.

Predator & Predator 2 both have some incredible action and special effects which still holds up even today.

A lot of crime dramas, such as The Godfather I & II, Goodfellas, etc, are just as effective now as they were when they were first released.

Many animated Disney films still look amazing. Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty & The Beast, The Little Mermaid. Even the older ones like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Peter Pan still hold up. Animation techniques and technology might have changed, but quality is still quality.

For "older classics", I still love the original version of Miracle On 34th Street. It's A Wonderful Life is another one. I watch these movies every Christmas and I never get tired of them. Just about any Abbott & Costello movie is as funny today as it was 50 or 60 years ago. The Naughty Nineties, Here Come The Co-Eds, Who Done It, The Wistful Widow Of Wagon Gap, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Hold That Ghost, Abbott & Costello Meet Dr Jekylle & Mr Hyde, Abbott & Costello Meet The Invisible Man, Abbott & Costello Go To Mars, Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy, Hit The Ice, In Society, just to name a few.

That's all I can really think of right now. I might post some more later.
