too many action movies today just feel too generic especially in the plot and just feel very direct to dvd

But I feel like the hero theme is what some of the movies need. I think some of these movies could only have benefitted from it.

I agree fully, but I think these days things have gone too far down the "Less is more" route and that's why we don't get iconic hero themes anymore.

Speaking of Lone Survivors, Dwayne Johnson's Snitch is actually doing well at the box office. Looks like he escaped the action holocaust unscathed.
