Does this work the same way as Microsoft Outlook but better?

It works fine, if you don't want to sync with a pda or cellphone. Also, the rules for filter emails to certain folders and what not, have a bad habit of disappearing. With that said it's a good free option.

The question is....what are you looking for?
I have used Thunderbird for about 3 years consistantly for getting my mail via IMAP....

I love the app, and have had NO PROBLEMS with it...not sure what he is talking about with disapearing mail.

The SPAM filtering built into the system is quite good.

real stupid question here. i just installed thunderbird, but the only e-mail addy i have is my hotmail one. the isp is my dads so i don't want to use it. anyway i can get around this or get a non-free e-mail addy

Hotmail does not allow you to "download" it to a local client unless you pay I think....so you have to use a web browser.

My mother hates Outlook and shes not happy with gmail.com because she needs a whole new name and whatnot. I was hoping i could find something similar to Outlook where i can host her comcast email so she doesnt have to change her address
