Okay, I'm creating this thread so that people can give me constructive criticism.

Well, my idea is about a boy named Jake Jacobson who has three sisters; Michelle, Ashley, & his youngest sister Torrie. His sister Michelle & his mother are generally very nice to him while his sister Ashley & his father would regularly pick on him. One day, Jake ended up murdering a fellow classmate & his father & sister which caused him to be institutionalized. Seventeen years later, an inmate breaks out & lets out everyone else as well. Jake runs into another inmate who pisses him off & causes him to go on a rampage, killing anyone he sees. He makes it back home where he seeks to reunite with his sister & mother & he even finds out that his mother has given birth to another son who is seven-eight years old. To get away from the madness, Jake's mother originally moved to another part of town & changed her last name. Well, while attempting to reunite with his family he is soon shot to death at the end of the movie & at the very end, before the credits roll, his hand rises from the grave, signifying that he is in fact alive.

Now, my original idea behind this movie was to not include his mother or sister anymore after the first movie & to include his brother in which after his brother grows up they have this big ass fight in which they both end up in Hell where the Devil tells them that the winner will be sent back to Earth.

The original person I wanted for this role was Tyler Mane who I actually got a chance to talk to on Myspace but he said my idea was too similar to Halloween so I'm seeking ways to change the story a little so that I can advance & get it made soon.

no offense dude, but you really can't get much more cliche than that.

I know, which is why I'm trying to get help to improve my idea. Even I know when my ideas are rip-offs.

I wish you good luck then. It's very hard to come up with good new ideas for horror films. Pretty much everything has been done already.

First off, you need a theme. It's essential. When in doubt, your theme will always guide you through and help you tell the story you want the world to hear.

My theme was originally him going completely psycho & killing everyone (except for his family).

Do you think I should just leave his family out of the movie? What would be the best way for me to make him become a killer?

ya im sorry but i agree with tyler mane. too similar to halloween for my liking. all the best to you though.

I know that already, that's why I made the thread, so that you all can actually help me improve the idea. I've already stated what you just said many times over.

I would come up with something completely new. But hey, that's just me.

Why the hell did you post anyway? Take your attitude elsewhere & stop being an ass.

Yeah, whatever.

Now, moving along, how about a boy who gets killed in the woods & ends up coming back to life years later when another kid is killed there?

I agree with coming up with something completely new. This idea is just too much of what we've seen many times over. What you need is a theme. What you mentioned before isn't a theme, it's just the subject matter. The theme is the message you want to get across by visual means. A very common theme would be "the grass is greener..", etc. To gain the theme of your film, you need some solid inspiration. Try listening to music, flow into the lyrics, build mental images of the songs you hear. Look at art, go to a museum, because it dosen't get much more inspirational than that. Just open yourself up and become a lot more sensitive to what's surrounding you.

Well, I just want to make a good horror movie of my own which has been mostly inspired by the new Halloween movie. I know that I need to come up with something completely new which is why I'm searching for help. Lately I've been watching Jason & Michael Myers movies to get some kind of feel. Right now the only new idea coming to my head would be doing something with a teen instead of a really young kid who goes psycho or dies.

Yeah, whatever.

Hmm, still too cliche. I will say we haven't really seen a great ghost story as a movie. Ever think about making up a ghost story for your horror film? The only good ones has been Poltergeist and the original Amityville Horror.

Thanks but I don't really want to do a ghost horror movie. I actually hate the idea of ghost movies anyway. I originally wanted to do something about an unstoppable killing machine that eventually destroys the Earth or something to that extent. It may not go that far as to him destroying the Earth but I just like the idea of a big guy killing anyone in sight.

Hmm, the problem with that is you already have Jason, Michael, Leatherface, and Pinhead to an extent that fit that category. Like others have said it's difficult because every horror film that we can think of has already been done, but it's still cool to come up with something original and I give you props for trying.

Eventually you'll find that right inspiration and you'll create something completely fresh. It just takes going through various ideas in order to reach that particular goal.

You still need to figure out your underlying theme. Otherwise you're writing a misguided story from the get go.

Yeah, I know but I want to create a big smart guy. Jason is mentally ******ed & so is Leatherface while Michael is just dumb....to an extent. I'd like to create a big guy who is somewhat intelligent & instead of the usual him dying & coming back, I'd like to mix in some actual comic book like elements in one of the movies.

I think this is a great thread and it opens the possibilities of others presenting their horror film ideas. As for my horror film idea? I've already written a script for it and have a plot synopsis for it as well.

Ready? My horror film would explore the possibility of the existence of Sasquatch. Hear me out on this concept if you will. The overall concept is a group of hikers are attacked by a creature that they've never seen and a group of scientists are sent in to investigate sightings of a Sasquatch.

The real horror is you only see quick glimpses of the creature and the glimpses only come when it's right up on the victim. So for instance the camera(from the victims point of view) would be looking around the thick wooded area and then all of a sudden(minus the loud cheap scare tactics), a hairy biped primate is running at them full force.

One of the scariest scenes I wrote for it is one of the scientists is lost in the woods. Obviously one of the worst things is being lost in a thick wooded area with a thick fog covering your surroundings. All she hears from the distance is the creature screaming, growling, and the branches from the trees snapping or bushes moving and she has no idea which direction the creature is coming from. Keep in mind the fog is so thick that you cannot see what it's in front of you, and to me, that is what's chilling to the bone when it comes to horror. The fact that you have no idea what is behind that fog and you don't know where it's going to attack from.

Why do I need a theme for a slasher movie?

The theme is essentially the overall concept of your slasher film. Every horror film that we've seen from the past or in the present have a particular theme.

For example, Michael's theme is that for some reason he was tainted by a force of evil that drove him to kill his sister. That was it and John Carpenter said the theme was so simple that it was all he needed to create a film.
