My Horror Movie

I think this is a great thread and it opens the possibilities of others presenting their horror film ideas. As for my horror film idea? I've already written a script for it and have a plot synopsis for it as well.

Ready? My horror film would explore the possibility of the existence of Sasquatch. Hear me out on this concept if you will. The overall concept is a group of hikers are attacked by a creature that they've never seen and a group of scientists are sent in to investigate sightings of a Sasquatch.

The real horror is you only see quick glimpses of the creature and the glimpses only come when it's right up on the victim. So for instance the camera(from the victims point of view) would be looking around the thick wooded area and then all of a sudden(minus the loud cheap scare tactics), a hairy biped primate is running at them full force.

One of the scariest scenes I wrote for it is one of the scientists is lost and one of the worst things is being lost with thick fog. All she hears is the creatures loud screams, growls, and she has no idea where it's at or where it's coming from.

That actually sounds like a good idea. For a while I thought Big Foot was real & the thought of it being real scared the **** out of me for a while.

The theme is essentially the overall concept of your slasher film. Every horror film that we've seen from the past or in the present have a particular theme.

For example, Michael's theme is that for some reason he was tainted by a force of evil that drove him to kill his sister. That was it and John Carpenter said the theme was so simple that it was all he needed to create a film.

Well, I guess you could say that my theme was that child neglect & abuse could open up a world of evil for the child suffering from it.

You are correct sir. Though for Halloween I'd say it's more simply, 'true evil never dies'. Carpenter never intended for Laurie to be Michael's sister until he wrote Halloween II.

Well, does anyone have any ideas that could start me off?

I'm thinking of some themes. What might help is asking yourself do you want him to be a sympathetic killer or someone that is pure evil?

I would go with sympathetic killer. Pure evil is boring and been done to death. Just look at Dexter. Now that's an interesting take on a serial killer. I think you should do serial killer, not slasher. But again, you do what you think is best.

Hm, it seems like you're not really trying very hard at all to put forward any original or interesting ideas that you're passionate about. You kind of just throw out a basic horror flick template and ask everyone to fill in the blanks for you. Not very inspiring.

Like everyone else said, think of a theme. What do you want to say with your movie?

A serial killer who feels he's doing the world a favor? You already have Jigsaw from SAW doing that. But I do agree that it is an interesting take on the serial killer mythos.

@Vegeta- Could this serial killer be unstoppable without being Jason or Michael for instance? Perhaps he could be a John Doe or a Zodiac type killer?

I want to show how someone who was an innocent child can become completely evil & a legendary killer.

Yeah, I know. Dexter was just an example.

I actually wanted to make a serial killer that is smart enough not to just walk into traps all the time & isn't a total mute like Jason or Michael.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning already did that I'm afraid and the Jason films have done it as well. :csad: :csad:

Okay, I'm creating this thread so that people can give me constructive criticism.

Well, my idea is about a boy named Jake Jacobson who has three sisters; Michelle, Ashley, & his youngest sister Torrie. His sister Michelle & his mother are generally very nice to him while his sister Ashley & his father would regularly pick on him. One day, Jake ended up murdering a fellow classmate & his father & sister which caused him to be institutionalized. Seventeen years later, an inmate breaks out & lets out everyone else as well. Jake runs into another inmate who pisses him off & causes him to go on a rampage, killing anyone he sees. He makes it back home where he seeks to reunite with his sister & mother & he even finds out that his mother has given birth to another son who is seven-eight years old. To get away from the madness, Jake's mother originally moved to another part of town & changed her last name. Well, while attempting to reunite with his family he is soon shot to death at the end of the movie & at the very end, before the credits roll, his hand rises from the grave, signifying that he is in fact alive.

Now, my original idea behind this movie was to not include his mother or sister anymore after the first movie & to include his brother in which after his brother grows up they have this big ass fight in which they both end up in Hell where the Devil tells them that the winner will be sent back to Earth.

The original person I wanted for this role was Tyler Mane who I actually got a chance to talk to on Myspace but he said my idea was too similar to Halloween so I'm seeking ways to change the story a little so that I can advance & get it made soon.
I guess it could pull off to be good as long as they had good character it could have a chance to make it by alright, I guess.

Your best bet then is to make him unstoppable have him be a John Doe/Zodiac type killer. Someone who is unstoppable and intelligent enough to not fall prey to elementary traps.

Yeah, right, you're right. That's why I was thinking about just making him start out in his late teens in which something drastic happens that causes him to come back as an undead killing machine.

Stay away from the child abuse turns into psycho deal. It's way too expected. What you need to do is look in yourself. I'm not making an attempt to sound corny here, it's what you need to do. You need to write about what you know. What do your fear?

It dosen't even have to be something obvious like "I'm scared of the possible existence of aliens! :gray:" What frightens you from a day to day basis? Think of it as a therapy session.

At one point majority of my films centered upon the desecration of females. Not because I'm sexist or anything but because at that point, I had just ended a pretty serious relationship with a girl who temporarily kind of messed me up emotionally. So as sort of a therapy I used filmmaking to dive into that and explore what I could've done to her, but would never in my right mind, actually do in reality..

Dig deep my friend. You can't really listen to that crap, "everythings been done" because it hasn't. No one has any access to whats lurking within my mind unless I allow them to peek, so to speak. Everyone has stories to tell. Some can express it better than others and those who can need to rise up and change this sad state of affairs in Hollywood.

Well, the only problem now is how I'll start the story off. It needs to be good enough to be somewhat different from the others. I'd also like to make him not just lumber around but make him run sometimes. I was also still in the process of thinking of some type of mask for him.

Thinking of a mask should be one of the last things on your mind right now when coming up with a story.

It sounds kind of silly to say but I think the only thing I actually fear would be something like Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers happening for real. Other than that, I can't think of anything.

I'd like to see a horror movie for once fully focus on the bad guy as the lead and follow him throughout the whole movie experience and allow the audience to connect with the character and try and understand his story a bit more. I don't want him to be un-dead but I want him to be alive it's just that he seeks revenge over the men that nearly cost him his life for no reason and turns to an alternate idenity to fulfill his intentions to take among the path of vengence and bring his rivals to justice. I don't know if it would be an exact horror flick but... I don't know I guess it depends how you make it; but for once I want to just follow the villain and see what causes him to become the bad guy and so we can understand his course of actions more then just hack and slash for no reason.

Well maybe you need a little more life experience. Because I guarantee sometime in the future something is going to scare the living piss out of you whether it be a college professor or bill collectors. You just really need to open yourself up.

Get yourself in touch with all different types of art including paintings, photography, drawings, anything that can help stimulate your imagination. It's essential to any writer. Art is the finest food for the mind.

I stopped reading after the main character's name. Jake Jacobson? Way to be a writer.

Seriously, stop being a bitter jackass. I can't wait until they ban you for spamming & being a troll.
