Does anybody here watch it? No?
Why don't you have a seat over there? This could take a while

It started here: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic

Now before you laugh/cringe, this show although intended for young girls is the brainchild of the creator of The Powerpuff Girls (very popular) and co-creator of Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, Lauren Faust. So you know it has a good pedigree. Now this has to be one of the best animated and well written shows out there and barely in it's 23 episode (26 for Season 1) already has a large Male fanbase, even adults of both genders love it.

Why? Because it's both hilarious and chock full of references to everything from Lord Of The Rings & Hitchhiker's Guide to old Looney Toons cartoons. It has actual plot with a snarky bookworm for the main character who is anything but girly. The other 5 main characters have varied personalities complete with positive traits balanced with flaws. It's more in line with Freakzoid/Anamaniacs than say the old series of the same franchise. It's very much self-aware and makes jokes on stereotypical girly tropes

What I initially thought to be a meme and a dumb trolling attempt on 4chan turned out to be something much more. A hidden gem in the so called animation age ghetto.

Proof? Let's start by showing you the best moments set to the
ELDER SCROLLS: SKYRIM trailer --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egrlzkKa6O8

More? Here's MASS EFFECT 2 ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqpyAlvyP3Y

Now here is an actual episode (the best one in my opinion) ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNNe18riEcQ OR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=695TTotkf_I. The latter is more actiony.
And here is a funny clip ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7PGKcikaGY

Oh and for people saying it's girly and for kids. I'd do your research before making these accusations. Lauren Faust herself has stated on her DA account that although MLP is for kids, she ain't surprised about the core demographic the show is getting. Apparently it was created in mind for adults as well

Finally, this is not an attempt to force someone to like the show, rather present it in a fashion that does not scream TROLL! If you like it, good. If you don't, all the power to you. I personally find it hilarious. Proof that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover (and the prologue).

Go ahead, begin the name calling.

So...you're saying we should check out this show.

Well yes. It can't hurt can it? The show airs on The Hub on Thursday's but they upload episodes on their website on Friday's. It's also available EVERYWHERE on YouTube since The Hub considers this free advertizing

I don't know, man. My Little Pony? I don't think my inner child could allow it.

I never bothered checking it out since I thought it was just your run of the mill kid show. But ill check it out. Loved one of the movies from like 10 years ago.

I've been seeing MLP sig and avvy showing up in other forums I frequent, and I wonder why male fans would like a show based on a well-known series and toyline for young girls. Looks like the success of this show proves that you just need competent people to make any show elevate above its materials.

Bolded for truth. Unfortunately we live in a world where genuinely good shows are cancelled because they tried to be too smart but they keep the trite. And Micheal Bay churns out another dumb Transformers movie, laughing from high atop his Gold castle. Other companies care about their properties...
Hasbro? Naahh!! They should consider themselves lucky for hiring Lauren Faust

Season 2 confirmed though :awesome:

I am actually recording this show now. hah! It's nice to see material that's done in a unique way that appeals to all ages.

Watched the first 2 episodes and they werent to bad. Wouldnt mind if they tried adapting Rescue at Midnight Castle for this series. Loved that special as a kid.

The peer pressure is getting to me. I might have to DVR this now.

Not bad. I do wish they'd run with the Magical Girl style story arc stuff they had in the pilot, but the executives forced the issue of it being episodic, whatcha gonna do? Still, kind of jarring to go from "fighting a fallen demigod turned Lovecraftian horror" to "day in the life of self reliant teenage girls."

All in all, it's pretty good. The characters are all fairly well rounded and the episodes are pretty fun. I think the only thing really holding the show back is the aformentioned lack of a real plot arc, the cast and setting really seem like they were designed for longer storylines. Hopefully it'll take what's working and perfect it the same way Transformers: Animated did. And hopefully it won't get cancelled the same way Transformers: Animated did.

Yeah, so, watching a lottle more... it has an enormous amount of potential, but so far after the pilot, the plots just seem a little to generic. A great cast of characters, but I've seen these episodes before. The characters definitely elevate it, but I wish they'd do something a little more interesting with what they have. So yeah, my main complaint is that too many of the episodes I've seen are a little boring.

Also. Watching episode 4. Wondering why they're making such a big deal out of Applejack saving the town from a stampede when not two episodes earlier she, along with the rest of the main cast sans Spike, saved the world from the God of the Moon. I mean, saving the town's important, but c'mon.

This is what the creator has to say:

I didn't create this show for little girls, I created it for little girls and their parents--including male parents. It only stands to reason that adult animation fans without children may like it, too. The belief that boys shouldn't be interested in girl things is the main reason there's hardly anything decent for girls in animation--- or almost any media, for that matter. It's a backwards, sexist, outdated attitude.

I won't even front, after watching a couple eps, I am a brony. :csad:

After seeing this trend on Know Your Meme and hearing/reading claims of it actually being good, I decided to record a couple episodes during the time I had Hub on free preview.

Lo and behold, I'm now a brony and I'm anticipating the second season. :]

It's a crazy mixed up world when I get more enjoyment from a My Little Pony rerun than from a new episode of Transformers Prime.

My only complaint regarding the show is the complete lack of Princess Luna after the two-part pilot. She's probably the second most powerful character in the series yet she doesn't even get a cameo.

Looking forward to season 2.

Better than watching another one of those Japanese card shows

Hm... I'm expecting smoehting along the lines of Adventure Time based on the reactions... will I be disappointed?

>_>

...

<_<

I enjoy this show. >_<

And I love Fluttershy.
