Mystic Arcana: Black Knight will arrive in stores on July 18 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Roy Thomas and David Sexton, with art by Tom Grummett and Eric Nguyen and a cover by Marko Djurdjevic.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Part two of a magic event defining the mystic arts of the Marvel Universe. The fall of Camelot is near and the Old Magics are in danger of fading from existence. Merlin's only hope lies with Sir Percy of Scandia, the Black Knight! But will the cost be too great as Sir Percy duels with Mordred the Evil in the last, great battle of the era? Plus, Ian McNee's dangerous quest for the four magical objects continues as he faces off with the treacherous and beautiful Morgan Le Fey in a special 10-page story."

Mystic Arcana: Black Knight will be 40 pages and will cost $2.99.

So's Tom Grummet. Or at least I thought he was. Those pages look real purty, though.

Yeah, Grummett raised his game to a whole new level. I wonder how long it took him to draw. I haven't seen his work on anything since he got replaced by Deodato on Thunderbolts--you think he's been drawing this one-shot that whole time?

He did that Baron Zemo: Born Better mini in the interim. I think he's one of the those guys that benefits a lot from a decent inker and colorist. Those aspects seem to make or break his work.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Born Better. Good mini.

Grummett's inker does seem to be really good on this Black Knight one-shot.

Seeing Grummet's work, and it being a solo one shot about the Black Knight just makes the fact that this "event" sucks even sadder.

Dude, there's one issue of the lead-ins out and we don't even know what the actual event mini will be about yet. It's a bit premature to write the whole event off already.

We know that it's "Annihilation with magic" and we also know that that does not include Strange. I'm sorry, but that's ******ed right off the bat. And the one issue of lead-in that we did get sucked. Hard.

What do you expect? Magik's never really been a compelling character, just a confusing one. The Black Knight's one-shot will be better. It has to be.

Also, "Annihilation with magic" just refers to the fact that it's an event taking place outside of the other major events that features heroes from one niche genre. It's not meant to be an exact copy of Annihilation with magic substituted for sci fi.

Dr. Strange's absence sucks. That's about all I got on that one.

Yeah, magic-centric things like this should at least kind of feature the person who basically makes it his entire existance to protect it and direct it.

But we still don't know much about it yet. I'm still interested myself.

If I judged Annihilation on Ronan, I'd have missed out on quite a few things. Despite the fact it lacked pretty much all of the higher cosmics who SHOULD have been interested in it.

Well, it had the Silver Surfer and Thanos, at least. When I think of cosmic stuff, I think of them.

Or Adam Warlock, Eternity, possibly the Living Tribunal (who never seems to actually do his job anymore).

Eh, I prefer not to see the higher cosmic abstracts. I was kind of glad Warlock wasn't there either, since he always brings a philosophical bent that would naturally lead to those same cosmic abstracts.

It just didn't make sense not to have them there.

"Damn, Galactus is dying. Wasn't he created to make sure the me of this universe wouldn't die, when they're planning on killing me now?"

And Adam Warlock, "My Thanos sense is tingling."

Warlock should've probably intervened, but the cosmic abstract entities probably knew everything would work out fine. Besides, they never intervened when Galactus died the first time, so why would they now? The universe will still exist with or without Galactus; it'll just dip a bit more towards the chaotic side with Abraxas.

Like I said, it didn't make sense. They should care, since they're co-dependent on each other for survival, and they like survival.

And if Galactus died, there'd at least be 20 more problems that'd arise.

And Abraxas wasn't out for chaos, he was out for destruction.

Plus, there's probably fifty more reasons that Galactus' continued survival doesn't destroy the universe, since they never seem to really reveal what his overall purpose is. It's just to prevent what happened in the last universe from happening again by eating planets.

Presumably those cosmic abstract entities are far wiser than we and knew they didn't have to intervene. Hell, for all we know, they knew things would play out exactly the way they did.

They sure in the hell don't know what to do half of the time they're in mortal danger, what changes that time?

Like I said, doesn't make sense.

You know, like Strange. They'll probably say, "He's too busy dealing with the New Avengers." To which I'll say:

"He's too busy fighting ninja's to worry about the oath he swore to uphold to the Ancient One about being the Sorcerer Supreme? Looks like there's room for a new Sorcerer Supreme. Maybe that Atlantis chick."

They should get a new Sorcerer Supreme. That would be a cool story. It's not like Strange is doing anything to earn the title anyway.

Exactly. They've had Salome be one before, but not her. That'd suck.

And I don't want someone related to the Ancient One through bloodlines, and an existing character would seem odd outside of Brother Voodoo.

A new character, totally from the blue would be awesome. Or one of those guys that Strange competed with to earn his title. Like said Atlantis chick.
